ESPN Insider --> Could a Peppers-for-Cutler deal solve an impending Carolina problem

I'd like to hear a summary at least.

It wasn't really anything huge. Just basically ESPN blabbering on about how they are surprised that we are not apart of the list of potential suitors for Cutler and that it would make sense for us to trade Peppers for Cutler because Peppers wants to go to a 3-4 D and Cutler wants out. Furthermore, Cutler coming here would make sense because of the performance Jake had and that it would make our offense fearsome if Cutler was under center.

Once again, nothing to really talk about, just ESPN speculating as usual

trade jake and Peppers for Cutler, sign him to a longterm deal with all that cap savings. Offense is solidified for Years to come.

Then focus on Defense in draft and FA.

Cutler has 10 plus years ahead of him, Jake's days are numbered. Plus the talent gap of course.

The real question is how many more points would our offense score under Cutler than it has under Jake? We were consistantly in the 30's towards the end of the year, i dont think Cutler will break us into the 40 point range constistantly. The problem was that our dfense was giving up major points as well. So trading Peppers for CUtler actually hurts our defense A LOT in the short term, or until we have a replacement on teh line that can even be half of what Peppers is..

I wouldnt be opposed to the trade at all, but it actually might make us worse in teh short term...but better in the long term since Cutler will be our QB for 10 years...

maybe they think Moore is the answer to Jake's replacement?

I don't see how we ever win a Superbowl without a franchise QB, and aside from that Jake is 34 with a bad elbow, weak arm and has played two Horrible playoff games back to back now

I really dont see how the hell our FO is doing nothing in regards to this. Like people on here say, Pep wants to go to 3-4 (Denver) and Cutler wants out, we need a new young QB (Cutler) This to me is like a gift from above if they did that. We would have a good QB great running game, and our passing game would be even better.

plus Denvers defense sucks and needs improving.

honestly, I think we could sign a high quality DE in FA that would perform as well as Peppers did most of the time. i.e. someone who doesn't take games off, consistent, etc.

I dont think Denver would accept a peppers-cutler trade. They wouldnt take jake because of his salary. Tampa Bay offered there first and a third rounder for Cutler. If there were to trade him they would take the picks insted of a 30 year old DE, who has never played and OLB in a 3-4.

There are so many more options that would benifit Denver than to send him to Carolina for a 30 year old, never played OLB in his life, Peppers. Detriot, Cleveland, Jets, 49ers and Bucs would all give a better offer than we could, so I dont see him coming to Carolina.

Jake is getting there in age and has no arm strength left. Look back at the Green Bay game. I think Moore will be the starting QB in 2010.

This is what everyone ignores. We would be a little better on offense with Cutler for sure, but the defensive side would be a lot worse. In the end it's not worth it to trade Peppers for Cutler, we need another defensive end or the picks to get one.

jake is gettin old, and yes we do need to start thinking about the future. and yes cutler is a very talented QB that has alot of years left ahead of him, whether those years are good or bad remains to be seen. would i wana trade peppers for cutler? NO.

1. IMO jay cutler is not that much better than jake

2. jake is a great leader for the team and has great chemistry with everyone. despite what the media and fans say. the coaching staff, the FO and the team stands behind him.

3. jake has never had any off the field problems. cutler has proved this offseason that he realy needs to mature. the nfl is a business.

4. IMO we do not need a franchise superstar type QB. we are a run first team. our running backs are young and our o-line will be together for a while. we need a game manager type QB. and IMO i think matt moore can do that.

5. were a 12-4 team. our biggest weakness is the d-line. it would be a huge mistake to trade away our best d-lineman and not get the compensation to replace him and fix other problems on the line.
