Armanti Edwards

I would guess that Armanti returning kick returns has much more to do with people above Rivera. Whether he sucked or blew it up there would be idiots here in the huddle arguing who was right. Who fuging cares.

Fact: As of now he is not contributing enough and if he is going to take 3-4 years to develop he should have never been chosen so early. It's stupid to blame him for that, I am sure he is putting all efforts into becoming successful so I support him fully. It is the FO that should be blamed on this one. Maybe they are jut too homerish to see past it.

The coached have given him plenty of chances in preseason and he fuged them up why would they risk that in a game? Although I must say he should be alternating with Nannee (sp) because he isn't much better.

:cheers2:

Fwiw, it doesn't matter right now where he was drafted. Criticism of Hurney over the pick is understandable, and relevant in a thread about bad draft picks. But unless one of you has a time machine, there isn't much we can do about it now. Edwards is on the team, and he is a project, and fwiw, he has shown some improvement this year. I no longer cringe when he catches the ball, and he has made some nice returns.

If he is going to become a part of the passing game, I feel he should be worked in slowly. Truth is though that we don't really need him in the passing game. He provides depth right now, and thats about it. If we get some injuries though (and I hope we don't), we might get a chance to see what he can do.

The coaches aren't giving him a chance

He was targeted eight times in that last preseason game and had four drops. That's not going to get you on the field during the regular season. He's lucky he's still on the roster. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him make some plays as much as the next guy, but you can't fault a coach for not giving him an abundance of opportunities to drop the ball again.

Who exactly do you think he should be getting reps instead of? The only person you could argue for is Legs, He's not going to take reps from Smith, or Lafell. He'll probably get more reps as the season goes along to spell people as the season starts to take it's toll, and hopefully he'll get to shine, but we have enough receivers right now that his time is limited.

He was only drafted a couple spots after Lafell.

Armanti Edwards WON that game Sunday for us against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Where were you people at? How many punt returners could have even caught one of those high rocket kicks in that tropical like downpour? He had one for about 9 yards before the one for 15 yards to save and win the game for the Carolina Panthers. Didn't see one time that he didn't make a good decision on handling the football. He also probably SAVED us about 20 to 30 yards by making those extremely hard receptions.

Edwards was the "Player of the Game" in that first game. He had returns of about 25 and 21 yards and receiving yards of about 50 yards.

They need to give him more freedom. They talked to him right after he had those two electrifying returns and since then has only taken it directly up field without trying to really elude tacklers the way he did on those two.

EXACTLY!!! If he had let those punts go, we have been playing from much worse field positions. The last one that he had to run down gave us field position near the 50 yard line. He definitely did his job in that game!!!

Oh, and on the dropped balls topic, it would be interesting to see how many balls have been dropped in each game by each Panther player verses their catches. Someone with the time and expertise please hook us up with that!

Wow. The mods should just go ahead and ban anyone with "APP" in their username from posting in threads about AE.

I agree that his draft position has nothing to do with his pt right now, although it does seem to influence the thinking of some. Put the best team on the field, regardless of where they were drafted.

But Edwards has a lot more to learn and take in than Lafell. He is going to be behind Lafell and Nanee as well until the coaches feel more comfortable with him (if ever). And the coaches probably feel that with a rookie qb, its best to have as many vet receivers on the field as possible.

The fact of the matter is Edwards just doesn't have good hands. He doesn't hit the hole as a return man and is certainly far from dynamic. Any time he receives punts it is a gamble. Dont get me wrong I think he has a lot of potential but his overall fundamentals need a lot of work to play at this level.

Rightttt. But you at least can agree with the fact that he was part of the win. The offense had struggled maintaining drives all day and this return gave them a short field to work with. It was huge for the crowd and i'm sure was a big boost to the offense.

And for those of you talking about fumbles, 3 games=0 fumbles....relax...Hell Steve Smith basically threw the ball to Green Bay and multiple people defended him, he drops passes but its okay. Give him a shot to sit and learn the play book because fact of the matter is Pilares, King TUT, and AE are going to hardly see any field time this year. Smith, Nanee, LaFell, Olsen, and Shockey is who you should be worried about right now.
