Cam is running too much

I like "him" to be more aggressive with it as well. I quote him because sometimes he should drop back and already make up his mind he's going to run to make a play with his legs. If we ever need it and they rush 4, run through one of those lanes that open. I remember playing Freeman his rookie year and he killed us with that

I'm not with the designed coaches play for him to run unless its like 2nd and 1 or something

the pocket can be a much more dangerous place then the open field..just ask vick

Yeah, but there is a BIG difference in scrambling to throw a check down or running out of a bootleg for ground yardage due to coverage, and running forward on a draw into the crashing arms and helmets of a DT or LB.

There is a reason QBs don't top rushing yards that often. Getting an elbow or hand injury as a RB isn't nearly as show stopping for them as it is a QB if it's their throwing arm.

Our O-Line really needs to gel. When announcers remark how crafty you are, and how slippery you are is fine when you have a QB like Cam, Vick, or Brees. Can you imagine if Anderson or Jimmy were back there? Thankfully Cam has the skill to scramble, but like Vick, it'll only wear on him. Give him a amazing pocket and he'll do even better. I think the most of what we see from him is not designed and it worries me. He's going to get hurt. That said, all five of my fantasy teams wither have Vick or Cam as the QB, lol. Running points + passing points = happy times.

This!

I do not have a problem with Cam running when nothing is open down field - he's proven to me he'll keep his eyes down field and always be looking for the open receiver.

but I am tired of seeing us sending him into the waiting arms of multiple DTs and LBs... =|

If Cam is going to be at risk in the pocket anyway - and that's just how it is for a QB, nothing special to Cam - then why are we adding additional risk by having him run draws up the middle quite so often? Especially when we have multiple backs capable of doing so...

I'll just post what I posted before this thread. I completely agree with the OP. The pocket may be a dangerous place to be but ideally it isn't suppose to be. The solution is NOT to run it if this is the case, it's to shape up your Oline. The same can't be said about the open field. Not to mention to wider variety of injuries expand (for example a hamstring injury, unlikely to happen in the pocket). Cam should run when no one expects it, after he is 100% comfortable or as a last resort. If a play is designed for Cam to run it should come unexpectedly and by deceiving the defense, not just blocking them. Cam is too precious to lose, let's not increase the chances.

STOP running CAM. Teach him to 'smart run' (Rodgers) and scramble (Rothlisburger) but don't fuging run him in a play it's fuging retarded, he needs to catch defensive players by surprise, not be set up by play design to run it and get injured on 2nd and 2 and then again on 3rd and 2. I hated those calls, stupid. If you need to avoid pressure SCREEEEEEEN.

Maybe more often when the game is on the line, or in the playoffs but these play designs should not be regular routine plays.

Cam isn't running all that much. Yeah, some of the designed runs take too long to develop. But if they can just run an iso with him in short yardage situations or on 1st down, I will take those (as far as designed runs go).

The kid slides a lot now, unlike in college. He isn't going to take the big hit unless he gets blind sided. And even if he does, he'll end up dragging the bastard for 3 yards and completing a pass. lol There were a couple hits where, were it any QB in the league except Big Ben, they would have been killed. But it seemed like Cam barely even budged. He is just too massive to get drilled like you think he will (save for the Ray Lewis types who hit ridiculously hard on everybody).

Why? If he can rack up 400+ yards passing against the 3-0 Super Bowl champs, do you think he can get more yardage using his legs?

/baffled

In that same Greenbay game where Cam could have potentially set up a last scoring drive to tie the game, Cam had nothing but green in front of him (due to Greenbay playing absolute prevent) however, instead of easily grabbing the first down BY RUNNING, he chooses to remain in the pocket, force a ball that had no chance at hitting a receiver, and loses a down.

He's done that several times actually, but this one instance enrages me to this day.

If I recall correctly, we did score on our last possession, but it wasn't enough to tie the game and missed getting the ball on the on-side kick.

Or maybe you were referring to another series?

Still... a good QB is going to scan downfield on a designed passing play. That's actually a GOOD thing if he can throw accurately.
