They've been able to tell what tower you're on as long as they've had cell phones. When I was there, they'd actually tell what trunk you were on rather than the specifictower, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were now.

And, um, triangulation wasn't invented in the Pentagon. lol

Yeah but they didn't used to put the location of every cell tower you used on your monthly statement in the past. A co-worker tells a story of a guy who called his wife on business from Dallas. But the monthly statement showed the calls came from Florida where his wife figured out he had a little somethin' on the side. Whoops. :D
