Should I transition?

I need some advice from the gaming gods.

I have a ps3 with two controllers and 12 games. Everything is fully functional, looks great, yada yada. I have had Playstations since the original PS, so I am very familiar with the systems, controllers, etc. I have a few issues with Playstation Network's reliability and security..and a lack of personal friends (they all have 360's).

So, I am thinking about trading in my ps3 console (40g), two controllers and 12 games for store credit at a local game stop. Game stop currently has a bunch of promotions right now regarding ps3 console and game trade ins.

In conclusion..would I be able to make the transition without spending any money (aka using store credit for transitioning)? Is it worth it? And any other advice to things I might have (and probably) over looked would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

I'd sell that stuff first before giving it away to game stop. Because that's literally what you're doing when you do business with Game stop. They will low ball you man.

I wanted to get the newer version of the 360, and they wanted to give me $70 bucks for my old console, an elite console, which they would turn around and sell for triple the price.

My two cents, sell that stuff on Craigslist. You'll get more money out of it that way.

I would buy a cheap xbox off ebay. You can even get a broken one and repair it yourself, it is pretty easy.

To get the console itself and a controller, you might be able to spend around 60 bucks if you do it right.

Otherwise I would try craigslist first, as you could probably get more money out of your system.

Well, the only reason I said gamestop was because they are running a bunch of trade in promotions..but I am aware of the bullShi* the gaming stores try to pull.

Everyone I've talked to all concentrate on exclusives for each system..but I don't play games for the exclusives..I'm pretty much a NCAA football guy and coD or Battlefield 3(when its out)...and I pretty much play online...so it seems obvious to switch.

I've thought about craigs list...but I know alot of fug9rs who get booted from live for modifications of thier consoles and then sell them..at least I'm guaranteed not for that to happen if I buy it used through a gamestop.

... you're in a huge University.... go to a bulletin board, stick a paper with your information and asking price on a wall.

Wait and see your stuff get sold.

Ha, well I graduated this year..so I am no longer there. But, I live in Louisville, KY now (grad student UofL), so I may do the same on campus here.

I'd try ebay too.

I guess I shouldn't say to make sure you wipe the HDD before you sell it.

You may get more if you sell everything separately. People will low ball on their offers if you try to sell it all at once. I tried to sell my PS3 with 4 games and 6 blu-rays along with 2 controllers and an HDMI cable back when the PS3 was $600 by itself. I was selling everything for $700. No takers. I sold everything individually and got around $1000.

edit: and the competition in shooters on Xbox Live vs. PSN is much fiercer. Don't get frustrated and quit.

yeah, GameStop should be a last resort only. They prey on the easy and uninformed. First I'd go with Craigslist, eBay, local "Iwanna", etc. before I'd ever consider selling anything to GameStop...

Although, I did sell a Mario Kart DS game to GameCrazy for like $40 when it was only selling for about half of that on eBay. Got me more than half trade in for BFBC2.
