Panthers vs. Jaguars Analysis

Ok, so here are the numbers that the Jets and Titans put up against Jacksonville, and vice versa:

Week 1:

Hasselbeck 21/34 for 263 yards and 2TDs, 1INT.

Britt had 5 catches for 136 and 2TDs.

Johnson and Harper rushed for a combined 34 yards.

Jacksonville's only real threat in the game was MJD, 97 yards and a TD.

Week 2:

Sanchez 17/24 for 182 yards and 2TDs, 2INTs.

Keller had 6 catches for 101 yards and 1TD.

Combined rushing for the Jets: 100 yards and 1TD.

Jacksonville's McCown did poorly, 59 yards 4INTs. Gabbart came in and went 5/6 52 yards.

MJD put up 88 yards with no scores.

So by looking at these numbers, you can see in week 1 the Titan's rushing attack was non existent. But the Titans racked up some yards passing and scored 2 TDs. You could make the assumption that if Carolina can't get the rushing attack going, Cam should be able to pass the ball. If the Titan's passing attack was successful against JAC, this bodes well for the Panthers.

Week 2 was a different story. The Jets were able to run the ball, and Sanchez wasn't hot. Again, JAC allowed 2 passing TDs, but the yards weren't there. This is a good sign as well, since even if Cam can't be effective, the game can still be won through game management and the running game.

The Panthers have scored 44 points to JAC's 19, and have allowed 58 to JAC's 48.

These numbers, to me, give Carolina the advantage. Enjoy the game.

.

Where the Jets started there drives had a lot to do with the yards not being there.

For example, the Jets started drives on the

Jags 1

Jags 18

Jags 28

NY 40

NY 41

etc.

Is the Jags' D better than GBs? Do they have a Mathews or better corners than GB? Does their rookie have more game experience than our rookie?

DelReo will look at this game as special because, in a way, the Jags have always been in competition with us due to the birthdate rivalry. Sibling rivalry I suppose. It will be a knockdown, smackdown type game; but we'll win our first of the year.

For what it's worth, I was reading some fantasy updates on rotoworld, and it said Jacksonville is starting two different DB's then they were last week. That means you should start Cam, Smitty, and even LaFell as a flex WR on your fantasy teams if you have them.

what about the other side of the coin?

opponents against carolina's defense...

week 1 - arizona

passing - 309 yards, 2tds, 0ints

rushing - 100 yards, 1td

week 2 - green bay

passing - 308 yards, 2tds, 0int

rushing - 124 yards, 1td

people pay so much attention to the offense that it goes unnoticed that the defense gives up almost as much yards and just as much points as the offense can produce.

carolina's db situation is just as bad, or worse, than jacksonville's.

true, but...

GB has Aaron Rodgers and the best WR corp in the NFL

Kolb has Fitz (arguably the best WR in the NFL who creates problems and opportunities for others).

So, giving up some plays makes sense....especially to GB.

Jacksonville has a TE (who has been injured....and that is it).

...along with a rookie qb that carolina will probably make look like brady, and a pass catching rb who they will not contain.

i will be happy to see a victory on sunday...and ecstatic if it's as easy as half the huddle thinks it will be.

Can't apply Fox's flaws as obvious ones of a completely different staff.

If Carolina loses it won't be b/c of the passing game of Jacksonville. It will be b/c we couldn't contain MJD. Screens and dumps off to MJD is still the run game essentially.

qft. A Panther suspect interior D-line, two star linebackers out, and you're starting a rookie QB. If you were Jax's OC what the hell would you do???
