panthers address stumbling running game

If Bell continues to play at a solid level at RT, I think it would be reasonable to test Otah at RG.

Shocking statement.

Bell had an adequate game for a first start, but he gave up four pressures and one hit whilst we picked up 4 yards running between him and Hangman (we didn't run outside Bell without a lead blocker).

If it wasn't his first game, it would have been a pretty bad game, as it is he was simply an outclassed rookie.

Yeah, but for an UDFA rookie making his first start against the blitz-happy world champs, I can give him a pass for last week, and would hope to see Bell get some snaps against the Jags to see if there is measurable improvement on the field.

General consensus is that the O line needs time to gel and develop chemistry. Through the first 2 games we have not had a consistent right side. Before we throw Hangman under the bus lets see how things develop. Last year we started off slow in the running game but things improved. Hopefully the same thing happens this year.
agreed 100%.

hangman is solid...or at least will be once the line, esp. on the right side, has time to gel.

how long have they been together this year? they'll get it figured out soon enough.

Hangman is solid, though I wish he were a back-up and not a starter.

Chemistry cannot be understated when it comes to O-line play. The Big Uglyz exemplify the word teamwork. Continuity, confidence, feel, trust, and accountablity all come from playing together. I have ultimate faith that Gross and Co. will get this sorted out sooner rather than later.

We do have some talent on our line. Just have to be patient during the process. And GOOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 Major things are messing our running game up.

No Chemistry with the O-line due to new players and injuries.

and Geof Hangartner. There is a reason why the Buffalo Bills are now a much better running team. We really need to Upgrade that spot next year.

The Hangman played Center in Buffalo and the reason for his downfall. when he played RG for us he was always solid, which is why he was able to land a contract for the Bills.

Right now, chemistry has more to do with our OLine than anything. I'm not so sure his stay with Buffalo says much about his ability to play RG.. of course I'm basing this on his solid ability to play RG while he was with the Panthers.

I really don't know why they won't test Ziemba at the RG spot.

Coaches don't just plug and play guys because it sounds cool..

let me put it to you this way: they are at practice every day and know a tremendous amount about football. you fans are not at practice every day and to put it nicely: comparatively, donno jack poo.. ;)

To me, it sounds as though for the FIRST time this season, the coaching staff is concentrating on the running game. I personally think this was by design. Let Cam awe other teams, and get the 8 out of the box. Now we can open up the flood gates and start running it. What better way to fire up that line than to issue a challenge to them.

Gross has said himself after the GB game, that He really "doesn't understand why they haven't run it more, especially in the RZ"

Like I said, I think this was a calculated move by the coaching staff. A "shock and awe" move with the passing game to put teams on notice by saying... "We have a quarterback, and he's a fuggin weapon" so stop loading the box, because we will hurt you!

I still see us as a pass first team with Chud running the O, but obviously our running game wiling a force to be reakoned with.

Once we can get a balance and have teams guessing... We'll be damn near unstoppable. Think about it

If they are just now concentrating on the run game they wouldn't give the line an earful for failing to run block

    • That would be a great pick, he might be my favorite for us right now.
    • The coach- Canales was a rookie hc and at times looked like it. But he did manage to revamp the offense, helped Bryce not look like the biggest bust of the draft, exuded positivity,  and made the panthers watchable again. We have a viable head coach for the first time since rivera The gm- Morgan had some hits and some big misses. Hits- the ol, Coker, demani, dj at first. Misses- almost every d player signed, brooks, the jury is out on x. I get what he was trying to do with brooks/Hubbard but it blew up in his face. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes. But he did trade mingo for a 4th, managed to get a 2nd rounder this year from the Rams and I am a fan of constantly churning the bottom of the roster The draft- x can be a solid player but not until he catches the ball, brooks was a high risk pick that didn't work out, Wallace, demani and Chau Smith can be solid contributors and showed glimpses, Coker and jt should be mainstays. And flipping a 7th round lb that was about to be cut for Jackson was a great move.  The offense- had its ups and downs but Bryce has turned from one of the biggest busts in nfl history to a potential franchise qb, that change is worth its weight in gold, thielen was crafty and underrated as usual, Coker was a gem, jt was the solid but has some growing to do, and Hubbard has been awesome, the o line was much improved as well The defense- well...they set records, injuries, poor coaching (imo), bad playcalling and just plain sucking this defense needs everything to change, we need horn and Jackson back and we get brown back but we need bodies and an identity. If they can do with the def what they did with the o then we can challenge for the division bc we already have some pieces there.  Overall- this was a growth year full of questions and some of the major ones were answered(qb, coach). For the first time in a long time the season didn't end depressingly and I do have cautious optimism for next year. But they need to learn from the mistakes of 2024 and if they do I like where this team is headed. On to the draft and 2025
