Most Hated Panther ever: Jake Delhomme?

It's not that I hate Jake, I just want a Hall of Fame caliber player in every position, I want Hall of Fame quality backups, and I want a Hall of Fame coach.

I also want to go undefeated for the rest of my life and become the best sports franchise EVER!!!!

It's not that I hate Jake at all.

Man I want a Hall Of Fame quarterback and head coach but Jake Delhomme and John Fox I doubt will ever be that. Do I hate Jake Delhomme no but I do wish that we had a better quarterback. Is Jake a classy guy? I don't know never met him thats besides the point, fans want to see their team win. Do you think that Jake Delhomme would start on teams like the Patriots, Steelers, or Indy? I say hell to the no, what do those three teams have in common? Superbowl wins. I want the Panthers to be superbowl champs, and I don't think that Jake can do that for us.

That's all I've got to say. If I offended, my bad. But as I defended myself, you defended yourself. Now if we're cool, fine. If we're not, that's fine as well.

FYI, I thought your response from which I quoted was a great post though I don't agree 100% with it.

I think that at times, attempts at fairness and objectivity are missing here, moreso lately than ever. But this post is a good example of the opposite.

People want to keep bringing up how Jake Delhomme had one of the worst games ever for a QB in the playoffs against the Cardinals. I am goign to get told by some brilliant poster on here that I should stop living in the past. Yes well the Cardnials game is behind us...

I know, I do think that is very silly myself more than 2 mos later. Then again, I don't think one game proves or disproves much.

I can use Rae and Carr in the same sentence. I think they have equaly earned the right to be hated on.

Like I tell my buddy Jeffro all the time. Find a QB the we couldn fill the position better that wont paralyze the team. Everybody who thinks we can just get Cutler is crazy. Getting Cutler is going to mean him getting a rich new contract. Getting Cutler is meaning we are going to have to find a QB to send them. You think they are going to take Jake? I doubt it.

Back to the matter at hand. For anyone to say that they hate Jake is their right. But really think about it. Jake is 56-32 as the starter(inculding playoffs and a super bowl that he gave us a shot to win) The only players with better stats since 2003 are Brady and Manning. Im not saying they are in the same league at all as quaterbacks. What Im really getting at is you dont know what you have until its gone. 3 years from now when we are fighting to go 6-10 because we dont have a stable QB to go along with Smith, Stewart and Williams we are going to remember the good ole days with "Good Jake".

Jake Delhomme is and will always be my all time favortie Carolina Panther.

Alright I'll drop it all lightly here for LPF.

I like Delhomme. Personally, he could be the most down-to-earth, fun, cool and funny guy to be around. I'm not going to harp on his personality. I never did. He might have the best personality of any QB in the NFL.

That said, he shouldn't be exempt from criticism of his last performance just because he's a nice guy. I'm a nice guy, we all are, but that doesn't mean we can all f*ck up on the job and our bosses are going to be okay with it just because we're nice. There's a general standard of performance in the workplace, that you need to meet in order for the company to move forward. The NFL, just like everything else, is a workplace, even if it's a game. It's more like a really really really fun job.

...plus, he's getting older. He's not going to be more and more efficient in the future because he's 34 years old, he's got a bionic elbow, and yet, there's no contingency plan. There's no set plan for the future besides "...well we got that Matt Moore guy who beat a Seattle team by scoring 13 points and throwing all over second/third string TB defensive backs."

Is there a surefire solution for this? No. There never is. That doesn't mean we shouldn't even draft a QB in the 3rd or 4th round. Try something. Any self-respecting organization will tell you that they couldn't think that way, that it isn't worth it to try because there's no set answer, because otherwise no QB would ever be drafted, period. Make some plan for the future, because all 3 of these guys are due out the door next year as of press time, and even if you don't realize it yet, we keep pushing QB farther and farther down the list of priorities, and when Delhomme retires it's really gonna show. And then everybody is going to say, "You know, he was right". It's not some overinflated smugness, it's common sense people.

You know you can come on here and talk about Delhomme's positives all day. I'll list his positives...

1. He's great at getting the ball to a playmaking WR.

2. Despite average arm strength at best, he does seem to hit his mark long downfield pretty well.

3. His teammates love him and are inspired by him.

4. He can wake up in the 4th quarter when his number is called, and rally a team like the best of em.

...someday we're not going to have him playing here, or his play is just going to deteriorate to the point that the pass game is ineffective, and judging from 3, 4, 5 interception performances this year, that day is well on it's way. And at that point, we're going to be standing there with nothing in our hands to move on, and we're going to scramble to find the answer.

That's how I, and a lot of others feel. It may not be your viewpoint, and we never said you couldn't disagree with it but don't make blind assumptions at our reaction to ridiculous scenarios and call us fairweather fans and expect everybody to blow a bunch of sunshine and daisies up your butt. Just because we have different viewpoints does not make us any less of a fan than you. I don't know if you're trying to prove yourself or something but people here don't obsess over how intense a fan you are. You basically walked in a debate meeting with a .357 magnum drawn and firing into the ceiling and you complain when we draw our own weapons. Even the largest Delhomme supporters left on this board ridiculed you for that.

That's all I've got to say. If I offended, my bad. But as I defended myself, you defended yourself. Now if we're cool, fine. If we're not, that's fine as well.

Well said. Much better than the mudslinging arguments we usually see. (not you specifically, just the arguments in general)

hypothetically speaking your most hated/criticized panthers are probably...

Rae Carruth-For his murder rap

Kerry Collins-For being a drunken racist and not embracing the team

Sean Gilbert-Not necessarily for his production but more what we gave up for him

(Most recently) Mike Trgovac-Soft snuggle bear zone defense

Delhomme doesn't even come close to these guys. It only seems like he does because those 3 players were all a long time ago and nobody's really talking about them. IIRC, Trgovac was the prime subject of ridicule the past few years, over Delhomme, over Fox, over everybody. He was the butt of all jokes on this board for A LONG TIME.
