Most Hated Panther ever: Jake Delhomme?

Well I don't think Fox is going to take the blame publicly. So that leaves the guy who turned the ball over 6 times.

It's not noble to tell the truth, that should be the norm, so really to me Jake taking the blame for it is the world operating as normal.(nothing heroic)

Certainly it takes character to not be a lieing asshole, and Jake isn't that.

Our defense was an issue no question, but I can't point out a single defense in NFL history that would have won that game with Jake turning it over 6 times.

You're right, Its never been done. (that I know of)

But at 1/2 time it wasent the case, and with a running game like we have we have no reason to be throwing the ball in the red zone in a game like that.

Play Calling WAS A BIG ISSUE

The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league. The fact is Jake Delhomme has gotten steadily worse as his career has progressed. You mentioned that he is a class guy and that your a loyal fan, that's great .... but this is the NFL. Your job security is based on your performance, not how much of a class guy you are.

You established that you're a Delhomme fan, and you're one of the many. That's fine. You're entitled to your opinion ... just don't go making assumptions of everyone on this board.

the defense put us in a hole. jake couldn't get us out of it.

we shouldn't have been in the hole in the first place.

doesn't excuse the turnovers but turnovers shouldn't be made the scapegoat for the whole disaster. i can understand why it would be made the scapegoat, i just don't agree with it.

we lost as a team.

Jake's first turnover led to the Cardinals first lead, and look where that turnover occurred.(at the Car 13)

So how exactly did the defense put us in a hole? By allowing the Cardinals to drive a whole 13 yards for a TD? comon now...

I agree, I have/had a bigger issue with the coaches than I ever had with Jake. Well see how the new staff does, that's why I'm not saying anything about coaching really right now.

I'm usually all for the idea that one person doesn't really win or lose you the game in a team game. (such as a missed free throw, or walk off 3pointer)

But 6 turnovers in a football game, I mean like even if Williams fumbled 6 times, and the same thing happened I would have to say it was Williams fault.

2 3 or even 4 int's, and I'm not saying this, but 6(well 5 and 1 fumble) really?

How many would it take, serious question, if he threw 10ints would it have been his fault? How many do you need to make it your fault you think?

Alright I'll drop it all lightly here for LPF.

I like Delhomme. Personally, he could be the most down-to-earth, fun, cool and funny guy to be around. I'm not going to harp on his personality. I never did. He might have the best personality of any QB in the NFL.

That said, he shouldn't be exempt from criticism of his last performance just because he's a nice guy. I'm a nice guy, we all are, but that doesn't mean we can all f*ck up on the job and our bosses are going to be okay with it just because we're nice. There's a general standard of performance in the workplace, that you need to meet in order for the company to move forward. The NFL, just like everything else, is a workplace, even if it's a game. It's more like a really really really fun job.

...plus, he's getting older. He's not going to be more and more efficient in the future because he's 34 years old, he's got a bionic elbow, and yet, there's no contingency plan. There's no set plan for the future besides "...well we got that Matt Moore guy who beat a Seattle team by scoring 13 points and throwing all over second/third string TB defensive backs."

Is there a surefire solution for this? No. There never is. That doesn't mean we shouldn't even draft a QB in the 3rd or 4th round. Try something. Any self-respecting organization will tell you that they couldn't think that way, that it isn't worth it to try because there's no set answer, because otherwise no QB would ever be drafted, period. Make some plan for the future, because all 3 of these guys are due out the door next year as of press time, and even if you don't realize it yet, we keep pushing QB farther and farther down the list of priorities, and when Delhomme retires it's really gonna show. And then everybody is going to say, "You know, he was right". It's not some overinflated smugness, it's common sense people.

You know you can come on here and talk about Delhomme's positives all day. I'll list his positives...

1. He's great at getting the ball to a playmaking WR.

2. Despite average arm strength at best, he does seem to hit his mark long downfield pretty well.

3. His teammates love him and are inspired by him.

4. He can wake up in the 4th quarter when his number is called, and rally a team like the best of em.

...someday we're not going to have him playing here, or his play is just going to deteriorate to the point that the pass game is ineffective, and judging from 3, 4, 5 interception performances this year, that day is well on it's way. And at that point, we're going to be standing there with nothing in our hands to move on, and we're going to scramble to find the answer.

That's how I, and a lot of others feel. It may not be your viewpoint, and we never said you couldn't disagree with it but don't make blind assumptions at our reaction to ridiculous scenarios and call us fairweather fans and expect everybody to blow a bunch of sunshine and daisies up your butt. Just because we have different viewpoints does not make us any less of a fan than you. I don't know if you're trying to prove yourself or something but people here don't obsess over how intense a fan you are. You basically walked in a debate meeting with a .357 magnum drawn and firing into the ceiling and you complain when we draw our own weapons. Even the largest Delhomme supporters left on this board ridiculed you for that.

That's all I've got to say. If I offended, my bad. But as I defended myself, you defended yourself. Now if we're cool, fine. If we're not, that's fine as well.

I don't hate him but I'm tired of his flaws. He's had the same problems for a while now. I want him to improve. He's always overthrowing/under throwing and not seeing guys who are wide open. I don't question his leadership and 4qtr magic though. I think more 3 WR sets will help him.

Mike McCoy gone. Rip Scherer in.

It actually seems that Peppers is more despised right now than Jake.

I'd agree with that, and some of it really is irrational.

I don't hate Jake, I just think his time in Carolina is passed. Why not improve at QB sometime soon? Doesn't mean I hate him.

Who's realistically available this year that's an improvement?

(and to be clear, Cutler is not realistically available and whether or not he's an improvement is quite debatable)

This is what happens when you have a relatvively young frachise. There is no loyalty to anyone, more than half the Panthers fan base are front runners anyway. Most of them switched teams when the Panthers became a franchise, what happened to the teams they were pulling for before that. It is going to happen. I was 6 when I became a Panthers fan in 94' when I started to purchasing their apparel a year before they played a game. Now I have attended over 16 Panthers games in Charlotte, and I am from New Jersey. I have also attended 20 plus Giants and Jets games. The two fan bases are uncomparable. The Jets down 20 in the fourth and all the fans will still be there cheering. Panthers down 20 in the third and people are flooding the aisles towards the exits.

I will give you an example. When the Jets released Chad Pennington, New York was nothing but appreciative for what the guy did for their franchise. No one would say anything negative about Chad and all they said was how he was a class act and deserved better. They recognized how he came in and since he was the starter gave them a chance year in and year out.

Now no on will appreciate what Jake Delhomme did for this francise. Prior to Jake Delhomme, made the playoffs once and the Super Bowl zero times. Since Jake Delhomme they have been in the playoffs three times and the Super Bowl once. Since 2003 only Tony Dungy/Peyton Manning and Bill Bellichek/Tom Brady have more win then the duo of John Fox and Jake Delhomme. And oh yes Jake Delhomme missed a year.

People want to keep bringing up how Jake Delhomme had one of the worst games ever for a QB in the playoffs against the Cardinals. How about when he had one of the best games ever in the Super Bowl and outplayed Tom Brady, and our D could stop no body and John Kasay kicks a ball out of bounds. How about when he goes on the road in January to NY and Chicago and wins some big playoff games. I am goign to get told by some brilliant poster on here that I should stop living in the past. Yes well the Cardnials game is behind us and every single person on this board knows that Jake is our QB next year so move on and get over it. The guy led this team to a 12-4 regular season record a year removed from a surgery that not ONE QB in NFL history ever returned from.

I have a passion for this team that Icannot even describe and I am sure there are many others out there like me, but sometimes it just disapoints me how our fan base can seem so ignorant and for a lack of better words dumb at times.
