Judging the top 5 after Smith and Muhammad is really difficult. You have a guy who has a high YPR, but not as many yards as the other. Then you also have a situation which is completely opposite of that. You also have guys that have at least one 1,000 yard season, but doesn't have as high YPR as a guy who has never had 1. Also you can't be fooled by just looking at the YPR because it has a direct correlation with the number of receptions. The lower the receptions, the higher the YPR. The higher the receptions, the lower the YPR. It's a very difficult task to rank these guys.

So what I did was only look at the players' YPR during the year(s) they started. They ranked like this (After Smith and Muhammad):

#3: Jeffers

#4: Green

#5: Carrier (has .3 YPR less than Ismail, but Ismail only started 1 year and during both player's 1,000 yard seasons Carrier had a higher YPR)

Moose finished his career with 696 catches and 9255 yards. Steve Smith has 634 and 9218. Unless he stops playing next week, Smith will soon surpass Moose. But right now, today, Moose is #1.

1. Moose

2. Smith

3. Proehl

4. Walls*

5. Carrier

Technically, not a WR by position name, but his numbers (450 catches, 5300 yards and 54 TDs) are pretty friggin' good for a TE. Oh yeah- 5 Pro Bowl selections from 1996-2001.

I think it comes down to either ranking guys who only had 1,000 yard season(s) or by YPR (but remember what I said about receptions and YPR). So either one you choose is a little bit flawed. So what I did was only look at the players' YPR during the year(s) they started. They ranked like this:

#3: Jeffers

#4: Green

#5: Carrier (has .3 YPR less than Ismail, but Ismail only started 1 year and during both player's 1,000 yard seasons Carrier had a higher YPR)

Green has the least receptions out of Jeffers, Carrier, and Ismail. So you can make a case that the reason his YPR is high is because of the attention Carrier received and Carrier was facing #1 receivers most of the time. Also the fact that the least receptions you have, the higher your YPR. So you can move Carrier at #4 for that reason. Which I did.

Now Green has never had a 60+ reception season with us. His highest number of receptions in a year with us is 47 (another reason I have Carrier above him). Ismail had 69 receptions in his 1,000 yard season. So what I did was take the first 69 receptions of Green's Panther career and gathered a YPR total. In 1995, his YPR was 18.8 with 47 receptions. In the first 6 games of 1996, which totaled 22 more catches adding to a total of 69, Green had a YPR of 11.3. Add that with the 1995 season and divide by 2 and you get a total of 15.1 YPR (rounded). Ismail's was 14.8 in his 1,000 yard season of 69 receptions. If you still take in the fact that Green had more chances to get open due to the attention Carrier got as well as facing more #2 CBs than Carrier (and the receptions to YPR rule), a .3 difference isn't that much of a difference.

So in conclusion, I would rank the top 5 like this:

1) Smith

2) Muhammad

3) Jeffers

4) Carrier

5) Ismail

Hopefully Lafell, Gettis, and any of our other young receivers will have monster futures so that ranking the top 5 will no longer be this difficult.
