WR's in the Draft

I honestly think we should seriously consider trading our 2nd rounder to move up and take Blackmon. I really think he's going to be a fuging monster in the NFL and could light it up with Cam throwing to him in this offense. Especially with Smitty still here for another year at least, probably another 2-3.

I know we have defensive needs, but man, Blackmon is scary good and I seriously doubt we'll end up picking high enough to get him without trading up. All we'd have to do would be sign a solid OLB to start, which shouldn't cost a ton, as that'll likely be our 2nd rounder anyway. Maybe sign a CB too, but I think we can get by with Gamble/Munnerlyn/Hogan for another year if it means having one of the most explosive offenses in the league.

A team with tons of needs trading up to get another WR? Worked great for the Falcons.

Except they gave up a LOT more than just a 2nd rounder. They gave the Browns basically their entire 2011 & 2012 drafts. I certainly wouldn't want us to do that.

But considering Hurney's record in the 2nd round and the gap in talent between Blackmon & Jeffery/other players likely to be available at our pick, giving up a 2nd to move up and get an elite WR like Blackmon would be a great move, IMO.

I mean, what would we really be out of? An OLB? A CB? Just compensate by signing a comparable player in free agency and we're set.

I think your missing the point. Jones has actually looked pretty good but there still 2-3. A #2 WR doesn't play defense or on there oline. And Kalil was a 2nd so its not like he never gets a good player. Not to mention I believe RR is having a good effect on Hurney's drafting so those types of assumptions are gone.

I expect Blackwon will be the first WR taken. I see Alshon as a guy that could potentially fall, theres been some concerns about his weight and I don't expect his 40 time to be that great. I see us picking at about 13 in the draft and even if Alshon falls I'm not sure he'll far that far. Floyd would probably be good value at 13 especially considering Rivera doesn't mind drafting players with percieved off the field problems.
