WR's in the Draft

I'd have to disagree with you about no first round WRs. Look at the last few: AJ Green and Jones are having good rookie years, Bryant is playing well (but he's an idiot), Demaryeus Thomas and Haywood-Bay are the only ones you could call potential busts, Crabtree is middle of the road but not exactly living up to his potential yet, Kenny Britt and Nicks have been monsters. That's probably a better ratio than 1st round QBs. After the first round or two, it's all a matter of luck anyway. I'd rather have Blackmon or Jeffrey than any other WRs in this draft, none of the others stand out at all.

? would you trade Cam for Green? How about a Suh/Revis/Polamulu/Reed/Ngata for one of the Johnsons? I'm not saying they can never succeed but would you rather have a dominate WR or a dominate DT/CB/S/LB etc? WR to me is near the bottom of the priorities of what makes a great team. Look how long it took the Lions or the Texans to become relevant even though they had awesome receivers. Its one of the last pieces to the puzzle and we are missing huge pieces on D.

BTW check out Sanu he could be a heck of a possession receiver for us. Big guy that can make plays both at and after the catch.

Obviously I wouldn't trade Cam for Green, and I agree WR isn't the most important position, but it is still important to have at least 1 good receiver. After Smitty retires, we got no one on the roster that has a great chance of becoming that good #1 receiver. Gettis showed flashes last year but he's far from a sure thing. We've had plenty of rookie receivers show promise and never amount to anything. LaFell continues to show flashes, but he's still looking like a solid #2 is what we can expect out of him. I'd rather address WR before Smitty retires. We don't need a possession receiver, that spot looks to be LaFell's to grow in to. We need a #1 to take over for Smitty in a few years.

My argument is there doesn't seem to be any Suh's or Revis's in this draft. I'd rather get a dominant WR (which Blackmon and Jeffrey look like they can be) than an ok DT or CB. We could probably address CB or DT in the 2nd and not be as big a difference from who we could have had in the 1st. If a dominant CB or DT emerges between now and then and is available when we pick then by all means, I hope that's who we draft. Otherwise, I'd rather get a dominant WR. It's called BPA, especially at a position of need (which WR is somewhat now, and definitely in the near future).

I'd be fine with picking a receiver if he was BPA it just never seems to me to be the case in the 1st (I remember how many people on here wanted Green over Cam). Someone will be there that is that player at another position. Something tells me it will be a CB or Kalil. Besides IMO I'd put Sanu right up there with any of the guys projected in the 1st. There is plenty of talent that makes it into day 2 and 3.

My biggest question about either Blackmon or Jeffrey is their diva factor. Is Blackmon gonna go buy 235 million dollars worth of jewelry before he steps foot on the field? I'd honestly let the deciding factor between the two (if we had our choice) be which one has a better head on his shoulders.

I prefer Jeffery's ability on the field to Blackmon's, but any questions about Blackmon's character was settled when I saw that College Gameday piece about him & that little girl that's battle cancer. It was pretty powerful, & made me want a high character guy like him on the team, even though Jeffery has no problems with his character at all.

I'd be happy with either guy.

I was one of those guys that wanted Green early in the process. The more I saw about Cam, the more I warmed up to him. I switched my preference to him pretty early :) If we have a shot at Kalil, I'd probably take him over either WR, but I don't think we will.

Decent QB play has brought Jeffery back to life. Two TD catches in about a quarter and a half so far. I just have to take Jeffery.

Blackmon is smaller, plays in a conference where there's no premium on pass defense in a pass happy offense. Alshon's bust potential is just much lower.

Alshon Jeffery FTW. He is going to be megatron 2

Alshon = Optimus?

A 5 star CB/Safety/DT is definitely a need, but this upcoming draft has none. These two WRs are in my opinion the best playmakers on the board, which is what the Panthers need.

I need to make a CB thread. Xavier Rhodes is one I think is a 5 star CB. He sticks to his man like white on rice in man coverage and is excellent in run support (plays more like a safety on the run). He also is fantastic in press. Doesn't have sprinter speed but he has all the other tools to make him a shut down corner in the NFL (and I don't use that term lightly).

If we have a top 10 pick, I say take Jeffery or Floyd. Both of them are great WRs and I think they'll both be stars in the NFL

If we're in the top 5 Blackmon should be the pick, it's not even close.

....Alshon is nowhere near as fast as CJJ which is one of his greatest assets....

I thhink he was comparing his abllity to go up and make the grabs over people.
