You can get pure breed animals from shelters. I've gotten three dogs in a row from Humane societies (the watauga county one, it's a no kill shelter). I have a pure bred boxer that I got at 12weeks from the shelter and a Shepherd Border Collie mix that was a year old when I got her. Boxers make awesome pets for children.
