The defensive line

That's interesting but as the season goes on I think they will really solidify. Not to mention not everybod else has played Rodgers yet. It's like looking at your team ERA in baseball getting blown up after a few weeks into the year because you made three stops in New York, three in Boston, and a couple in Texas. I think they'll get it together.

Defensive line and secondary are kind of symbiotic. A good pass rush makes it easier on the DBs, and a solid cover corner like Gamble makes it easier for the line (and linebackers) to tee off without fear.

that said, we'll have a lot more freedom to do whatever we really want to do defensively with a DL that can stop the run without needing run blitzes.

I had resigned myself to scrubs and rookies and given up hope that the team would make a legit signing at DT this season. But after seeing this it's made me want us to go after the best run-stuffer available, and that's Pat Williams.

I can't think that Rivera really feels like the team is all set at DT like our signings would indicate. It either has to be a money issue, or waiting for Pat to be available. They did show interest in him around the first week of September, and he is the only person we actually know the team has contacted at any point.

I'm just setting myself up to be let down by expecting any kind of signing, but it's too frustrating to really think they're just content to be 32nd. Especially now that our LBs are down. It's time to make a move.

Neblett could always be cut for Pat.

not a shock tbh. our d-line always projected to be pretty bad against the run. add in the injury to beason and the poor run rating at all levels is not too surprising imo. i'd guess the adj sack rate stat is more volatile than the running d stats due to sacks occurring less frequently. any stat will have some noise this early in the season, but we are too bad across all areas in the rush defense categories to brush it off as variance.

looks like our d has seen ~61 pass plays, so if we had one more sack that would put us at a 6.5% sack rate. the adjustment would affect the ranking depending on the circumstances of the sack but 6.5% would put us at 15th. so no reason to sound the alarms there yet, though i am of the opinion that johnson/hardy are not quite as dynamic a pass rushing tandem as most of the forum believes. still they are certainly good enough to get some pressure and w/the aggressive scheme the sacks should come (from somewhere if not them). what happens in the back end is as big a concern, as we've seen from the 3 or 4 massive gains we have already allowed

also, it's worth noting that these stats, pass rush in particular, really reflect the front 7 not just the d-line (esp for a team like us that will be blitzing lbs)

edit: for the op, does that gif mean you are surprised at these #'s? we have really been destroyed on the ground and despite having some stretches of very nice play on d (moreso in the green bay game), we also have given up a # of huge passing plays

stats are for losers...just win, and all that other stuff means nothing.

well seeing as statistics/production are indicative a team's ability to win game, i'd say that the stats do in fact matter. you will not see many successful teams w/o the stats to match. stats shouldn't be used as a crutch but they are good b/c they point to areas that may require improvement and do so more objectively
