Del Rio: Gabbert starting.

especially when our defense hemorrhages big plays and we've yet to play a heavy running team, yet we've given up some big yards to teams which don't lean much on their running games.

I do think we win this game, but it makes sense to see if Gabbert can win against us given our defense.

We did fairly well till the turnovers. I think its still a work in progress but its coming around. Does not help we are losing LBs every week.

Well, you could say that. But the fact is that Cam delivered the ball down the field consistently and didn't throw an interception and that screamed potential and upside. At the end of the day, the Panthers are a team right now that has screwed themselves out of 2 games because of our inabilities to score inside the 5 yard line.

My problem with Gabbert isn't his talent, but its more of the talent around him that's going to cause him to fail. Outside of MJD and Mercedes Lewis, this is an anemic offense to the point that I could compare it to our offense last year...and our running game was even more balanced last year than Jax's this year.

Gabbert isn't anything special at all, in my opinion. I was hoping we would not draft him. If we were going to lose a lot this year than we could have used that pick on another player and drafted a top end QB next year, and if we were to get to the playoffs this year there are QBs who would go at the back end of the draft next year that are as good or better than he is. It didn't make sense to me.

I'm not sure how I feel if Gabbert starts. On one hand, McCown is a sub-par veteran with some starting experience who has a few good games and a few really bad ones; there is plenty of tape on him to study. On the other hand, Gabbert is a rookie with no starting experience, but there's no real tape on him and for all we know he could come in and immediately play very well.

Or maybe I'm just too used to the Fox era when every backup QB that started against us ended up looking like a Heisman winner.

Very true. Anything's possible. Kid could step up too. We will see.

Like I said, typically it's always a good thing to be playing against a rookie QB. Guys like Cam are an exception to that rule. We'll see if Gabbert joins him. I hope not, because we need this win bad.

Following the game against the Cardinals, Rivera said he would've done exactly what Ray Horton did in terms of the amount of blitzing. If Gabbert's the guy, expect a ton of blitz packages to try and create pressure, force bad throws and hopefully accumulate sacks. The flip side of this means we're going to have corners and safetys left on an island. I'm not AS worried about this as I would be if we were playing another team simply for the fact that Jacksonville's vertical passing attack is rather incompetent. Still, that leaves open the possibility that the Jags could sneak in a big play or two, given the tendency of our secondary *cough* Pugh *cough* to give up big plays down the field.

I'm fully expecting (and hoping for) a win, however.

Also, Jags' fan logic that "If Cam can do it, Gabbert can do it" makes me laugh.

As a Jaguar fan I was not excited about drafting Gabbert. To tell the truth with all the negativity surrounding Newton I was hoping he would fall and we would take him. Back to Blaine though, expect close to 200 yards passing, nothing Cam-like.

I'm expecting (and hoping for the Jags' sake) that Gabbert can improve a bit on what McCown did for you on Sunday. And as I said, our defense has shown the ability to give up a few big plays.

What kind of offense are they running down there?

Always thought Del Rio was partial to conventional offense, but Gabbert might be better suited to a WCO.

This could be a potential problem. Chud and Rivera should be commended, thus far, for the dynamic approach to the offense they took. And by that I mean forming an offensive scheme that was going to fit Cam, and not try to fit Cam to an offensive scheme. I'm not saying all quarterbacks need to be tailored to like that, cause system QBs do exist, but in terms of the development of a young player, Chud and Rivera are doing it the right way with Cam.

We run the most conventional of conventional offenses. We dink and dunk and run the ball a lot when we are on. Unfortunately Del Rio is limiting Jones Drews carries and our true number 2 is on the IR so Karim needs to be next in line. Last I checked he was averaging below 3 yards carry or close to 3. No help for MJD at all.
