Del Rio: Gabbert starting.

I hope we win, because if we don't there will be suicides everywhere. Remember even if he is garbage, Gabbert is facing an awful secondary with a severely weakened LB corps and all-rookie DT combo. We have made guys like Gus Frerotte look like legends before. Temper your expectations.

Ok, I posted about this on that awful Panther Nation forum I was associated with for so long. Things are different now. This isn't Fox's gameplanning, which means there will be actual gameplanning. We have a defensive coordinator who will pressure this guy. They have no recievers. They have Lewis who's overrated IMO. Our D has looked good except for spotty crap. I'm more concerned about stopping the run, something we can't do. Something we won't address. Thanks Hurney.

Starting a rookie QB in week 3 against a hungry 0-2 team that just played the defending champs in a close game......................God speed Blaine Gabbert.

To play devil's advocate, from their point of view can you see a better time to start a rookie QB than against a team that's 0-2, has a rookie QB and their best defenders out on injuries?

especially when our defense hemorrhages big plays and we've yet to play a heavy running team, yet we've given up some big yards to teams which don't lean much on their running games.

I do think we win this game, but it makes sense to see if Gabbert can win against us given our defense.

Good point. But im just speakin from the point of view that ours guys are gonna be motivated to come out and take his head off because this is a very winnable game.

Sure they should be like that every game. I just hope our guys don't underestimate anybody! Any team in the NFL can beat you, even an 0-5 team coming off a bye. We ended up getting 2 Ws.

Never take anyone lightly in the NFL. Nothing's in the bag until after it's in the bag.

Why wouldn't the Jaguars also be motivated to get a win for their new starter? I think the motivation factor is a wash here. Both teams are hungry for a victory, both still believe they have a chance in their divisions.

We did in week 1 and still lost. Im just sayin even if its close i think we edge them out, MJD could have a good game but it wont be enough to beat us. We are getting better every week what reasons do i have to think we will regress against the Jags of all teams on our schedule? I just think we will do everything possible to win this game, just my confidence in the team speaking.

Side note: Rivera's last year as a Bear was Del Rio's first with the division rival Lions. The Vikes swept the Bears that season. Bears starting QB at the time? Jim Harbaugh (though he was benched for part of the year).

The Del Rio coached Jaguars beat the Rivera coordinated Bears 22-3 in the 2004 season, (Rivera's first as Bears DC) and the Chargers 24-17 in 2007 when Rivera was LB Coach there.

Last season though, Rivera's defense held the Jags to only 13 points while teh Charger offense (led in part by TE Coach Rob Chudzinski) hung 38 on the Jags defense.
