It appears we will get a chance to see if..

Have we not learned that you really can't predict anything regarding rookies.

I mean if Cam can storm on the nation stage with great games, then why can't Gabbart.

I love this team, and I think we can win some games, but at 0-2 starting a rookie quarterback, nothing is a given.

Exactly. Nothing says there can only be one rookie QB per year that goes beyond expectations.

We aren't good enough yet to take anyone for granted. That said, I still think we can pound the Jags into the dirt with good preparation and execution.

I agree. Some are just being hypocritical and going a bit too far with the Gabbert hate, just like others did to Cam.

Having said that, the odds are on our side on this one that he will struggle. Most rookies do struggle. Cam is an exception. It remains to be seen if Gabbert is too, or if he looks more like Clausen in his first start.

If he starts, Gabbert is going to come out and look like a deer in the headlights. All the criticism leveled on Newton was actually 100% applicable to Gabbert, but he lacks the arm strength, size, and mobility that is making Newton real.

except that Gabbert's strengths are arm strength, size, and mobility, and his weaknesses are unrelated to any of those three. He's not Cam Newton, but those areas are largely his strengths... especially size and mobility, where he may not be Cam Newton but he's still pretty fast and athletic. He has the arm to complete every NFL throw... He made some very nice passes in the preseason that demonstrated that. The question is more how he'll do when the pressure is on him... and that I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure some of you took it personally and have directed anger at Gabbert just because some analysts and fans liked him more than Cam... You don't need to have been impressed with Gabbert, but it seems like any time a rookie QB comes up who isn't Cam Newton, people freak out (and even though I quoted you here BCG I don't mean you specifically with this paragraph, so don't take it personally. I know you don't like Gabbert :p)

I'd rather Gabbert not start because I want us to destroy the Jags and I like the guy too much to want to see him crushed beneath CJ. :p

but if he does start, it's all going to come down to the run game. Gabbert won't be asked to win the game the way we have asked Newton to win us games.
