Naanee or LaFell?

Mr. Scot

Pretty sure Naanee has a legal issue that's still gotta get sorted out at some point.

Public intoxication at the scene of a homicide (seriously?) and reportedly played the "do you know who I am" card on the officer who arrested him.

(in fairness, he probably didn't) :sosp:

had to check and make sure this wasn't an old thread. . .

lafell 8 receptions, 10 targets, 119 yds, 1 td

naanee, 3 receptions, 12 targets, 21 yds, 0 td

lafell has a much better catch % and has been running deeper routes. naanee's catch % is putrid unless we were running a bunch of hail marys-- the fact that he has caught so few passes running plenty of short routes is a major concern. seems like we might be better just rolling w/2 te's most of the time in lieu of 3 wr sets w/naanee (idk what the breakdown is so far by formation)

edit: though i guess getting naother db on the field would help the run game

"Newton to Gettis" honestly intrigues me a lot more than "Newton to LaFell".

At least that's true if Gettis can return to form after his injury. Sad to say that's not a given :(

i know gettis had better #'s last year and started more games, but i put more stock in their draft positions than i do in their respective abilities to perform amidst the offensive chaos that we had last season (granted they both did reasonably well). also gettis had 88 yards on one play last year. on the one hand i don't want to discredit but on the other those sorts of long plays are rather flukey and given that he had 500 yds that's quite the boon. the differenc b/t a 40 yarder and and 80 yarder is often field position. but yes of course i hope gettis recovers

Even if he did he couldn’t pronounce it.

LaFell has been pretty consistent this year. I haven't noticed him drop an easy pass. There's been a couple drops, but if I recall correctly they would have been difficult catches. And his two highlight catches against GB were jaw dropping (admittedly, I think the TD catch was slightly out of bounds) but the other one was just amazing hands and awareness and agility to keep his feet barely in bounds. Reminded me a little in that respect to Smitty's sideline skirting against Arizona a couple years ago.

LaFell, Naanee has been given more chances this year and still hasn't taken advantage.

LaFell is a better blocker on the outside, and seems to have improved his drops for the time being. Smith can stretch the field with LaFell taking whats available underneath, hes a big strong physical receiver, and can go over the middle.

LaFell hasn't been open enough for the drops yet. He seems to only catch in traffic, or catch errant throws. His wide open drops are correctable.

As long as TD's surgeon isn't fixing his ACL, he should be back to form. I don't think you really lose speed with an ACL tear like you would with other injuries. But missing a season of experience as a young WR can be pretty hurtful.

Naane appears astoundingly slow for such a big NFL caliber WR, He also appears to be lumbering, uncoordinated and just uncomfortable...or, perhaps he just makes me feel uncomfortable when looking at him trying o separate and make a catch. Dude is very hard to look at. Maybe it's just an illusion.

LaFell, regardless of practice or his knowledge of the playbook (which is a source of great speculation), looks to play the part of a big-time go-to guy when we have to move the chains.

On an off note:

I still have a hard time believing that Clowney wouldn't have been the better choice opposite Smith, with LaFell in the slot. But, maybe it's all just me.
