Naanee or LaFell?

I think Nanee is starting right now because he knows the playbook better and he can run the routes from several different WR positions... having said that, LaFell needs to take over as the # 2 guy. Nanee's greatest asset is probably as a slot receiver to begin with, he's a possession type guy who can run those slant routes on 3rd down and get you a 1st down.

100% agree. I am hoping that these last two games have shown Brandon that he absolutely deserves to be on the field. Confindence is the ultimate wing man.

Lafell should be starting now. Those catches he made last Sunday are the elite catches that the BEST make.

Consistency has been Lafell's weakness, not ability.

I'll take consistently good over occasionally great anytime.

With that said, I'm not sure Naanee has been either of those.

(credit the Saltman for giving me the idea in the "Game Notes thread)

So who should be the starter at the number two receiver spot?

Legedu Naanee is more experienced and looked decent in San Diego, but has failed to develop much chemistry with Cam Newton so far. He's a big target, but watching him jump for a high pass this past Sunday was like watching a kid fall into a swimming pool.

Brandon LaFell has looked better of late, but inconsistency in the preseason seemed to earn him a spot in Rivera's doghouse. He's one of those guys who can make spectacular catches yet drop easy ones.

But I'd say Lafell for not only performance as a pure receiver but also effort and blocking.

So if the choice is yours, who do you have starting opposite Steve Smith, and why?

It really doesn't matte who the starter is. They are typically both on the field at the same time with the formations they use.

But, I would say Lafell

If Cam had actually been able to hit Naanee on either of those potential TD passes I'm not sure everyone on the huddle we be so critical of him.

I think Cam just needs to find a connection with Naanee, it appears that most the time he tries to hit him his accuracy is off. Thats not Naanee's fault its cam. He missed several receivers last Sunday.

Does LaFell know enough of the system to do much when he is not in the slot? Does he know enough routes? Will he look as good when suddenly a teams 2nd CB is regularly put against him.

The Huddle is always quick to judge. LaFell has a lot more potential while Naanee is probably never going to be some flashy superstar.

I'm sure people in the Panthers FO watch the two players recognize that Naanee is the more complete player right now. The question is, when will this change?

I acknowledged in the game notes that Newton should have been able to hit Naanee easily on that pass. Had another chance next play, but then it was already known that his short accuracy is not as good as his longball is.

With that said, watching Naanee flail like a kid falling into a pool going for that one high pass mad me cringe. A big receiver needs better body control than Naanee seems to have to be dangerous. He doesn't get open as consistently as I'd like to see either.

I'd start Gettis over either one of them if he were available, but... :(

Why are you running. Just about everyone in this thread said Lafell too.

I disagree with whoever said that Naanee can't get separation though. If there's one thing I did notice about him, is that he's pretty good at running routes and getting separation.

I was disappointed that he wasn't faster on that bomb throw to him last week though.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
