Gameday Observations from the cheap seats

I hate to put this on here so late, I've been slammed at work. I just wanted to post my thoughts on a couple things surrounding the home opener:

-Noticed a difference in the music being played in the Stadium. I remember seeing a thread a while back that was asking for suggestions and I actually heard a couple. Good mix of some old stuff with some new stuff. For the first time, I thought the music added to the gameday experience

-Green and Gold everywhere in the upper section. They were loud as well. Supprisingly though, Panther fans actually drowned them out a couple times. There is an excitement building in this franchise. The 2-14 disaster is an after thought. It seems most of the panther fans I sat around on Sunday were yelling and standing on third downs. Awesome thing to see!

-Speaking of Green Bay fans: they didn't take to kindly when Cam threw his first TD and I proceeded to stand on my chair and give them all the "Championship Belt".....a move I would later come to regret as it was uniformly given to me when Jennings caught the deep ball. Oh well. For a half of football they were awfully quiet.

-On to the specific game notes

-Nothing really needs to be said about Cam that hasn't already. Awesome arm, fierce competitor that made some rookie mistakes. We got ourselves a good one!

-Running Game: Count me in the group that is not too worried about the running game. We are using the screen/short passing game as a run game. I do think Deangello needs to touch the ball a little more, especially in the screen game.

-With that being said about the Running Game: We have got to do a better job with Red Zone playcalling. Specifically inside the five yard line and on 3rd and short. We should at least be handing off to Stewart or williams once, everytime we get in the red zone. Red Zone inconsistency killed us in that game, moreso than the turnovers in my opinion.

-Defense.....helluva job and I mean helluva job! Given the four turnovers, the fact that they played that well is awesome. Fua and McClain are improving. Hardy and Johnson are getting pressure without blitzes. Gamble (and i've hated on Gamble forever) is looking amazing out there. Pugh needs to get better. Not really concerned on the long pass to Nelson as we were geared up to stop the run and rodgers made the adjustment on Captain.

-Mare can absolutely bomb the ball off the tee. We may have the best kicker in that department that i've seen yet.

-Props to Armanti for fielding the punts. There were a couple big moments in that game where he caught the punt cleanly and advanced it a couple yards. Speaks to his growth as a player.

All in all I was very pleased. I can't wait to get back in that stadium with the majority being Panthers fans and rock that place Sunday. Welcome to the Jungle jags fans!

    • Yeah, also on the most talented team in the country for the most part.  It doesn't matter. We will see what happens.
    • I mean you are making the Brian Burns argument again. Would you rather have Brian Burns or Trey Hendrickson(taken in the 3rd round) in hindsight?  We will see how it all shakes out but don't be surprised if Stewart never really fully develops.
    • To me this sticks out like a sore thumb and should sound familiar to Panthers fans. This is one thing that has always separated the good pass rushers(Burns) and the elite pass rushers. It is the ability to consistently finish these type of plays. It doesn't mean that there isn't value in creating pressure, there definitely is. However, if you don't have other guys able to clean up those QB's getting flushed out, it doesn't end up amounting to the result you want against elite QB's.  I just think Stewart has too many question marks for me to be comfortable with as a 1st round pick. Love the athlete. Definitely love the athlete.
