NFL.com Peppers/Patriots *possible* update

Does Pep have no leverage? ( I am asking seriously). What I am worried about is he could play half a$$ed like 2007 and make $17mil doing it. My question is how does the franchise tag work? Is it based on productivity or what? If Pep plays sucky would we have to choose next year between letting him walk or paying another $17mil for 1 year? Granted, that is risky for him b/c he will not command as much on the market if he plays bad this year for us.

there is no performance incentive on the franchise tag. as long as peppers signs the tender he's got 16 mil guaranteed, less he gets traded to another team and his contract restructured, or restructures it here (which is not going to happen).

lol wouldn't be the first time the Patriots goaded the Jets to force a blind hand. Just last year they played NY into selecting Gholston because the Pats couldn't stop talking about him, fast forward a year later, Mayo puts up 130 tackles and Gholston was nowhere to be found.

exactly. they play that whole organization like a marionette.

people we are in a recession a high 1st rounder will cost a small market team like the panthers too much

the TV contracts are set in stone, Panthers still get thier cut from them. They can afford a first rounder, and this is a late first rounder at that, nothing special and not too far removed from the 2nd round pick we are talking about here.

ARe you freaking kidding me. A 2nd round pic so lame. Panthers can do so much better for peppers in trade. NE Pats is trying to pull off the same deal vikings did with cheifs for jarrod allen the DE. Pats know they can do alot better in this deal then just a stupid 2nd rounder. Yes trading peppers to free up 17 million in cap would nice. But we could free up cap if pepper would just sign a long term deal with the panthers. But why he want do that it is a mystery to me. Besides 17 million would be gone quick. After you signed some FA and the draft pics and resign a few people like jake and steve smith to long term deals. Then the 17 million would disappear quickly. I love peppers ever since the tar heels days and now that he is been a crying like biych. We need atleast 1 and second rounder out of him. Peppers is a beast and NE knows that. Pats just want to get a great deal for a cheap proce. If hureny takes this 2rd deal for pep then hureny days are number in carolina. But hell John fox will be on the hot seat this year. So giving peppers for a second rder want matter much I guess.
