I will be pissed if that is all we get. On a side note, it means we could have traded for Cassell and the sent him off for Cutler....:willy_nilly:

No thank you! Cassell had a good year with great recievers, I'm so glad we didn't get railroaded into that one at least! It's going to end up Peppers to NE for a 2nd and 4th or 5th.

I'm Pretty sure the Chiefs trade was leaked, or at least a heads up that "some trade" between them was being talked about way before it happened.

it wasn't very far in advance if it happened and i doubt that it was the pats who leaked it.

letting the cat out of the bag this far in advance (the reports say they were hoping to get the deal done in between the 22nd and 25th) gives other interested teams time but a deadline to get something together.

Yea I didn't say the Pats(though you never know) did it or would be happy about it, just throwing that out there.

Like you said we are usually tight lipped, but we probably leaked this.

That is good for us for sure, because it shows the current value(one that will hopefully go up).

okay i just got off the phone with a friend of mine from our charlotte catholic days who works in the marketing department for the Jets. All his coworkers are die hard Jets fans, and there are lots of rumblings from inside the organization that this was all a ploy to get the jets into a bidding war because their owner Woody Johnson is an absolute lunatic about the Patriots.

it makes sense. The Panthers have a trade history with the Jets, and how many times has a hurney trade leaked before it went through?

Were the Jets interested in Peppers?

Or are you saying we are trying to get them into the mix by showing that Peppers could play for an arch rival?

I wonder if Rex Ryan really cares about the whole thing.

panthers deserve more value.

That's fine to say, and I don't disagree. But at this point, what else can they do? From the standpoint that Peppers is 29, hasn't played 3-4 in his life, and is going to want a huge contract, there aren't many teams out there that "fit" all of these narrow criteria. The pick is at least a high 2nd rounder, close to a low first rounder.

wow! Peppers info that doesn't come from "a guy i know with inside information!"

well done sir!

but yeah, just a second round pick sucks, but at least it will all be over, and we will have some cash to spend

I think freeing up money to sign draft picks and get some FA depth is the key now. I think 2 2nds should be the price but oh well....that is why I am on a message board and not in the war rooms.

If all we would be getting is a 2nd I would rather explore a trade with Denver for the whiney Cutler. He is more upset with Shannahan being let go than the trade situation....I'll take him. I think he is a major upgrade over Delhomme or Rhett Bhomar.

lol wouldn't be the first time the Patriots goaded the Jets to force a blind hand. Just last year they played NY into selecting Gholston because the Pats couldn't stop talking about him, fast forward a year later, Mayo puts up 130 tackles and Gholston was nowhere to be found.

Pep ain't going anywhere for anything less than a 1st and a second... Miami is the only one that's close to offering that, and we're just as content with forcing Pep to play as a Panther at one year franchise deals from here on out...

Regardless of what Carl Carey thinks, we own all the leverage... Pep can play as a Panther, or he can not honor his contract and sit out of football... That's the bottom line... If we were that desperate to move him, he would be gone already... We have no interest in the FA market, and are content enough with our current team/draft position that we will stand pat.. no pun intended....

Does Pep have no leverage? ( I am asking seriously). What I am worried about is he could play half a$$ed like 2007 and make $17mil doing it. My question is how does the franchise tag work? Is it based on productivity or what? If Pep plays sucky would we have to choose next year between letting him walk or paying another $17mil for 1 year? Granted, that is risky for him b/c he will not command as much on the market if he plays bad this year for us.

should've traded pep last year when the Vikings took Allen and got two first rounders.

Good grief this sucks. What are we basically doing, trading Pep for a Dwayne Jarret type draft pick? They better atleast sending a starting Defensive Line player with the 2nd.

are we trying to make New England the odds on favorite for the Super Bowl? Why didn't you trade Pep for Cassel, then Jake for some picks atleast?

That would be a horrible deal. Hurney should be fired if it happens. Heck the vikes gave up a number one (#15 I think) and two 3rd rounders for Allen last year. That should be Carolina's floor for Peppers. At least get The Pats #1 at #23. The restrictions of cap room, mentioned in the article doesn't make sense; because once Peppers is gone; the Panthers would have plenty of cap room to sign a first rounder.
