NFL.com Peppers/Patriots *possible* update

There is also the possibility that nobody has contacted anybody about anything. Just a little bit of false info was leaked by a "source" in the agency to stir the pot and see if anything comes bubbling to the surface. Wouldn't be the first time.

Yea and then look at what the Cowgirls gave for Roy Williams.........

If all these players who aren't even as good as Pep can get these nice picks, and we get the shaft, well words won't really describe how bad that sucks I guess.

The two owners who gave up those picks for those players are Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder.

I particularly like the part where the close friend of peppers says he brings a warrior mentality to the field and lets his playing do the talking. Sure doesn't sound like the same person who routinely takes plays off and disappears at times.

I surely hope we don't take a second rounder for him. My hope is that when teams hears what the price could be, we now get into a bidding war.

My eye caught this part.

His arrival, should it come to pass, would have an interesting ripple effect across the roster, particularly on the team’s huge 2010 free agent class. Assuming Peppers cashes in on a long-term deal, the Pats would be left with dwindling resources with which to extend potential free agents Vince Wilfork, Logan Mankins and Richard Seymour.

Assuming the Pats make Wilfork the priority of that group, Seymour could be the odd man out. He signed a four-year, $30 million extension in 2006 and has been slowed by injuries virtually ever since. He finally approached his old form last season.

If he could be renegotiated, and if his health checks out, Seymour would be someone I could see easing the loss of Peppers.

(mind you, those are big "ifs")

ESPN is continuing to report this rumor, despite Hurney's comments. I am assuming this is because GM's always deny trade rumors. Interestingly enough, the Patriots have not responded, probably because the rumor is true. I think this deal will go through by the end of March, but I hope it includes at least a 5th rounder to go with the early 2nd round pick.

"But one of the things (the Patriots) are looking at is the fact that, in passing situations, they can have Peppers up front with (Richard) Seymour and (Jarvis) Green. That makes it easier for them to take (nose tackle Vince) Wilfork out of the game in (passing situations) and just play him on running downs."

Looks like they intend to hold on to Seymour for a least one year if Pep was on board.

That's Carucci's take over at NFL.com. Tomase is a local beat writer. He thinks Seymour would be odd man out. For the record, I always trust beat writers over national guys.

Mr Scot, I would not trust Tomase or the Herald as far as you can throw them when it comes to the Pats. I suggest you read the Globe Pats guys instead (Gasper and Reiss).

Nationally, Lombardi, Kirwan and Curran are usually pretty decent reads on the Pats.

Ron Borges has generally been the guy I trusted most on the Pats, him and one other local whose name escapes me at the moment.
