NFL.com Peppers/Patriots *possible* update

I would put peppers value compared to the players in this years draft somewhere just outside of the top ten, at 11

this gives him a value of 1,250 points by the handy dandy draft chart

A good value IMO would be the chiefs pick and new englands original pick, combined with a 3rd from new england as well

one 2nd rounder would make me vomit

your looking at the future of our defense as just next year.

We could use the cap space to extend thomas davis, and then potentially have a ton of cap room to throw around next year which could also be an uncapped year.

not to mention a high 2nd round pick to use on the defensive line, and lets face it, this years defensive line class isn't exactly stellar.

I think its a smart move. I also don't think the 34th pick is all we would come away with from NE

It's not like free CAP space is exclusive to this deal and this deal only. Trade him, yes, but for a single 2nd round pick, no. Our d-line is bad, but take away Peppers and add in some 2nd rounder, it's even worse.

I could POSSIBLY see them doing something with Jarvis Green, but not Ty. And I think if they would do that (and I don't think it's likely) they would want a pick form Carolina too. I do think either of those guys could help a bunch @ DE. Jarvis has more 4-3 experience though (he's usually the guy they put in @ DE when they use a 4-3 while Warren is their base 3-4 LDE). I don't think it's supposed to be a good year for 3-4 DEs in the draft so I really think that no other player will be involved.

Wherever NE would want JP to play, I DON'T CARE. That does not determine his trade value.

Whatever postion JP wants to play, I DON'T CARE. This does not determine his trade value either.

Holy pooballs at all of you thinking a second rounder for Peppers is a good deal...fug me

fug me in my fuggin poo stained ass

Every year is a very deep draft. talk about a cliche

We need a mid 1st rounder at least

:iamwithstupid:

Pep ain't going anywhere for anything less than a 1st and a second... Miami is the only one that's close to offering that, and we're just as content with forcing Pep to play as a Panther at one year franchise deals from here on out...

Regardless of what Carl Carey thinks, we own all the leverage... Pep can play as a Panther, or he can not honor his contract and sit out of football... That's the bottom line... If we were that desperate to move him, he would be gone already... We have no interest in the FA market, and are content enough with our current team/draft position that we will stand pat.. no pun intended....

Why do people question his motivation? Seriously....

If he didn't think it was "possible" that he could play in Carolina next year, he wouldn't have signed his Franchise tender...

As I said, he can honor that contract, or he can sit on his ass and waste what little youth he has left...

Pep, much like Jenkins, has gotten a raw deal from a lot of you "fans" who question him and his ability constantly....

The only way Peppers leaves town is going to be for that second rounder and another first (be it in the future or not), or some player we see as valuable... Honestly, we don't like player for player trades and feel the most value would be had from straight up draft picks...

Again, we hold the leverage.. not Pep... He can remain a Panther, and we will make moves to afford it, shoud someone not offer us fair value for him...

Marty Hurney is a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them...

Bottom line, I DON'T CARE what JP or NE or whatever position any other team wants him to play.

If JP wants to be a OLB, I DON'T CARE. That's his problem and his "new" team's problem. That's not the Panthers' problem.

We have a high quality, high first round pick DEFENSIVE END in his prime on the market. And THAT ALONE is what determines his trade value to the Panthers.

If you're going to buy French Champagne but drink it like it was moonshine, it doesn't mean that you will pay any less for the Champagne.

If you're buying T-bone steaks to make hamburgers, it doesn't mean you will pay less for the T-bones.

Unfortunately the NFL doesn't work like the Grocery industry. The fact that Peppers wants to play OLB in a 3/4 does affect his value. The fact that he want's to change position's does affect his value. He want's to move to a new scheme and play a new position, that affects his value. Unfortunately it is our problem, because it will scare some teams off and automatically lower his value.

We have a high quality, high first round pick DEFENSIVE END "who wants to change his position and the scheme he plays in" in his prime on the market. And THAT ALONE is what determines his trade value to the Panthers.

There I fixed it for you.

The Patriots are truly the con man of the NFL.

They've been secretly building another dynasty all offseason.

And this is the difference between our organization and the Patriots. I hate the Patriots but them f*ckers make moves. They stack their team every year and I know Dallas and the Redskins try to build through FAs with no success but the Patriots build through the draft by acquiring multiple picks, and aggressively picking up FAs. The Panthers need to quit being conservative b*tches on and off the field. And Jake Delhomme is a joke a loud bark but no bite. And I don't want to hear about how when he's the starter we almost this, we almost that, they don't give trophies to teams that almost win SuperBowls.

You just don't get what I was trying to say, huh? We do not have to trade him. His value to US is a high quality DE in his prime. If someone doesn't want to pay us what he is worth to US, then it is his choice to play for the Panthers or to sit his ass out all year.

Whether it's the grocery industry or not, WTF is the rush???? Let his arsine agent cave first.

There's a brief note on PFT about this from earlier today... this quote stuck out to me...

“This is a guy who totally went on strike two years ago because he wasn’t happy with his contract,” a player personnel source told Carucci.

http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/03/16/pats-in-play-for-peppers/

Now I keep up with the Panther's pretty closely, and that's the first time I've heard that kind of comment in reference to Pepper's 2007 "down" season. I've heard all of the "he was sick," etc. excuses, but on strike? Did I miss this before or is this new?

What is the deal in Charlotte anyway? Why do their best defensive players want to get the hell outta dodge? I thought the Jets raped Carolina with jenkins too, but I also understand you HAVE to get rid of someone who wants out. Now Peppers is forcing their hand to take another ramrod up the anus? I just dont get it.

That's the $16.7 million question that no one has been able to answer yet.

I've had my guesses, but no real facts.

So you enjoy getting f*cked in the ass?

No. Nobody is going to give us what Hurney wants, and he is foolish to even entertain the idea of getting two 1st round picks. I'm just being realistic. A high 2nd and a 3rd or maybe another 2nd, and getting his ridiculous salary off the books would be a very good deal on our side. We can re-sign Davis and Williams. Get some decent FA's, and sign our draft picks. That would make for a great off-season. IMO.
