Homerism happens everywhere, along with ignorance. It happens on this forum all day as well. I am no homer. I am a realist. I am not defending Gabbert but I would be able to take a step back and say those fans must be hoping he does have a better day because he did alright against one of the best defenses in the league.

It was one drive but it gave them hope. It's like reading a thread here about Newton after the first drive of week 2 for the Panthers about his greatness only to watch him throw three interventions after that. People on here used to argue with me when I said Jones Drew was better than DeAngelo Williams. That was homerism.

I understand my hometown Jags are the opponent this week but it's rediculous coming here and seeing the Panther fans talk crap about other teams fans when they do the same exact things.

That Gabbert drive was during garbage time when the Jets were playing soft prevent coverage and letting Gabbert make little 10 yard throws without any effort. The game was over. The Jags were down by 30 points...

Did I say he drove against them during crunch time to win the game? Did you actually watch the game?

Well lets see... so far this season Cam is setting records and Gabbert is holding a clipboard, so what about that would lead a reasonable person to conclude that Gabbert is going to have a better day?

You said he looked good against one of the best defenses in the NFL. He was just seeing the game out and the Jets were allowing him to have all kinds of space. That drive wasn't even the level of a preseason game. He wasn't in there to do anything but take what the Jets gave him and finish out the game. You can't come away from that drive and evaluate anything about it.

So for Jags fans to be hyped about Gabbert and say he's going to perform better than Cam is not even comparable to the hype Panthers fans are giving Cam.

And I love how you use interceptions as a negative when we played the Packers. Interceptions are the most overrated stat when it comes to young QBs. Even if Newton goes on to throw 25+ interceptions, you're really only talking about 10-15 throws out of 500 or so that need to be corrected. It's just such a small sample of the total passes, and there's a lot of subtle things that QBs can do as they gain experience that can dramatically reduce interceptions. Just learning how to look off a safety for a split second will probably reduce Newton's interception rate by half, and those are the kinds of things he'll learn with experience. And so far he's looked very good.

Woodson baited him into a couple of interceptions the other day. That's the kind of things vets and great players like him are gonna do to young QB's from time to time. If you're making Cam's performance on Sunday look like a negative... just wait until you see Gabbert's stat lines when he has a bad game.

You'll never become a great QB if you never throw down field and don't take some chances. And jags fans are acting as if Gabbert isn't going to make mistakes based on one meaningless drive. He's going to have several games this season where he throws multiple interceptions. I can't believe jags fans are seriously comparing Gabbert to Newton at this point. Cam is far better.

Newton knows how to throw the long ball. He doesn't dink and dunk like a Sam Bradford. 16 completions of 20+ yards and 3 of 40+ yards so far. That's in only two games... which is incredible. So when you do that you're going to see interceptions from time to time. But with time Cam is going to eliminate those mistakes. A lot of interceptions are about luck or bad luck as well. How many QB's this past weekend threw balls that should have been picked off but weren't? A ton. And how many interceptions were just incredible plays by a defender? The ones by Woodson were. The defense gets paid too. Cam is making explosive plays with his arm and that's why he's getting all the buzz and deservedly so. He's always stretching the field. Cam is averaging 10.3 yards a pass.

Also, you can't overlook Cam's running game and elusiveness in the pocket. 71 rushing yards and 2 rushing TD's in his first two games. He truly has the total package as a QB. That's something that sets him apart from a guy like Gabbert. Not only is Newton a better passer, but Gabbert and other young QB's like Bradford and Dalton don't hold a candle to Cam when it comes to being able to avoid the rush and run down field to extend the play.

Most importantly, Newton has a much higher ceiling than Gabbert and is already breaking records.

So don't talk to me in that condescending tone asking me if I watched the game. My question to you is... have you watched Cam AT ALL? To even compare the two QB's based on what they've done so far and what an educated guess on the future will be like is just laughable. Gabbert doesn't come close to Cam.

Any attempts a realism are usually shot down pretty quickly here.

Especially since 99.99% of all people on this board that claim to be a realist are in actuality black lipstick wearing pessimists who just have to let everybody else on the internet know exactly what is craaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwling iiiiiiiiiiin their skiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin

Yet when reality happens and they are shown to be completely wrong, they continue to claim to be realists? Wtf? O.o
