Thomas Williams to replace Thomas Davis?

So who is in line to step up and replace TD? Thomas Williams looked pretty dang sharp in preseason action. He hits hard, reads plays well, and moves quickly. Met him briefly at training camp. Doesn't matter when it comes to on-the-field play, but he was a really genuine and nice guy.

From what I read on here I believe, his scouting report said that he doesn't have the best sideline to sideline speed, so I wouldn't really want him to be man to man against TE's if that is correct. With that said though,

He has a great motor and never seems to want to stop. I'd like to see how he could get on the field, but like other people have said, I think Gaither will eventually be the starter since TD is down. I believe thats why we even brought him here, Sean knew him in Philly, good depth and good insurance if someone went down on the outside. He reminds me of a certain LB that we use to have that could play almost any LB position named Chris Draft.

you can't really replace Davis. He has a very unique skill set. I don't think the defense was built around him but things will probably be much different from now on.

Thanks for the memories TD but lets face it he is done. For his own sake he should hang it up. I think the Panthers did right by him with the money.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
