We have to remember to give Hurney, JR & Rivera credit for selecting Cam. The media was slamming him as not being ready & for organizations to be fearful to spend a very high pick on him. It was gutsy & the right move to select Newton, but it was not a slam-dunk the way media are talking now. Funny how they forget their own opinions & writings on Cam BEFORE he proved that he really has what it takes in attitude, work ethic, team work & on-field play!

Moohahah!

Cam Newton makes Peyton Manning look like a dork off the field.

Peyton Manning makes Peyton Manning look like a dork off the field.

It's not good to have lost all those games last year and getting the #1 overall pick in the draft .... but .... the Carolina Panthers couldn't have picked a better year to have that #1 pick. :D

.

The exact opposite of what many said going into the draft.

They are just building him up they can rip him to pieces when he hits a rookie slump or doesn't live up to expectations. They win either way.

Kind of like fattening the pig before the big barbecue!:D Too bad for them, because this little piggy is about to go wee wee wee, all the way to the superbowl!

I think there is some truth to that. It makes for good media. If he does well, they have plenty to talk about from week to week. However, if he does not live up to the hype, there is alot of I told ya so. Or he was or is not ready for the pro game. I just pray he does not get injured or get an invincibility complex like so many star athletes get these days and screw it up for themselves.

Sooooooooo what year should we be trying to give him an huge contract extension?....My biggest fear is that he wants to be an ICON, ENTERTAINER, STAR....and Charlotte might not be big enough for his EGO....I hate how people always want to go to places like New York, Texas, Florida or California to be huge...

This! I know I am putting the cart before the horse, but are Lebron James situations like that typical in the NFL? How does the salary cap situation in the NFL differ and affect the NBA? Is Cam the type of guy to have that kind of ego? I am not trying to sound like an insecure small market team fan (I know, too late), but should the situation come, has anything every happened like that?
