Signed Jason Phillips OLB

Lout

Before all you guys start questioning front office moves and this guy they have coming in, consider this: Cam has thrown for over 400 yards in BOTH games this season and the offense has done well, yet we've lost both games due in large part to the D. Both Beason and Davis are out for the season and we're scraping for LBs. Phillips was #2 behind Ray Lewis and I hate to break to ya but none of our LBs could stay on the field with Lewis, Suggs and the rest of the Ravens LBs. Phillips did it for 3 years. And as for a "concussion machine"...he's had one concussion his entire college and profession career. Kinda early to start throwin out those kind of labels. How bout you let the guy play a couple of games before you start callin him a scrub and a garbage pick-up?

Correction. He spent his first year on IR. Then was waived before this season. So the Ravens had enough confidence to cut him after only one full season. Yes, you're right, the D has helped lose games for us. That's why I have such an issue with this signing. Guys are out there fighting hard for wins, and instead of bringing in capable reinforcements when injuries hit we go the "well he was a guy we really liked coming out" route, which, in case you haven't noticed, has been a staple of Hurney's tenure, and has never worked. These kinds of signings are not fair to the guys on the team who are fighting for wins each week. He's a scrub, and a garbage pick up, and as of today I am officially off the Hurney bandwagon. I have spent enough time supporting this guy for him to make stupid moves like this and boneheaded extensions without learning from his errors.

For the record, I would take Beason over Lewis at this point in their careers, and Anderson over Suggs at any point. Stick a Haloti Ngata on our line and see how our LB's look. Overhyping the Raven's LB's like that was a silly statement.

Makes no sense. I would have rather of signed Wilson(our draft pick) of the P.S to at least get him on the field on st's, maybe more. This guy won't even be around next year

This was my line of thinking. If you're going to call up a young guy to a position you are already stacked at, might as well be your rook, not someone that has effectively proven they can't play at this level.

Still think signing a capable free agent would have been preferrable-and I'm not sold we should have even bothered to sign another LB to begin with.

Ok lets break down this lil soapbox speech...

First of all, you're correct. He was put on IR his first year with a knee injury he sustained at the Combine. That tells me that even though he was injured, he still went as the 1st pick in the 5th round. So they definitely had enough confidence in him at that point. Then, after rookie training camp and preseason camp, the Ravens still decided he was worth the money and decided to put him on IR and pay him his salary to basically go to PT every week. So it sounds like they had plenty of confidence in him. As for getting waived this past week, if you had done your research, you would have seen that the Ravens were short a couple DBs because of injuries so they needed to open up a slot to pick up an extra CB. And what do they do with that CB they had picked up on Saturday, he's now been released, which says that they were planning on picking Phillips back up, thinking nobody else would grab him. And you say this pick-up isn't fair to the rest of the team that is "fighting for wins each week"; how?? Rivera and Hurney see that the D we have on the field now aren't getting it done, so they bring in a guy who ran a 4.5 40-yard at the Combine (I think I read on one post he's too slow...that doesn't sound like "too slow" to me), is tough as freakin' nails, who knows the 4-3 Defense from playing for Patterson at TCU and is a great run-stopping LB. What's not fair is Cam Newton playing his ass off for us and our D not doing their job! So like I said before, let's see the guy play first before we start bashing him because it seems to me like he could be a valuable asset to our defense.

And no kidding I'm sure you would take Beason over Ray Lewis at this point in their careers...Lewis is in his 16th year! Beason wouldn't be able to hold Ray's jockstrap if he and Lewis had come into the league at the same time. And as for Anderson over Suggs...dude come on. All you gotta do is be halfway knowledgable in the game of football and watch a couple of each player's games to realize THAT was a silly statement.
