Why does our running game stink?

Happy Panther

I'm asking for your opinion.

As others have stated the O-Line seems strong at times and you would think they could make some holes.

And given that we are throwing so much you would figure on some long runs

Are the O-Line doing their job?

Is it bad playcalling?

Have we just faced really stout defenses?

our RBs stink all of a sudden?

Oh how quickly we forget. The Panthers running game has always gotten off to a slow start. It's been that way for the past 3 or 4 seasons. Give the time for the O-Line to gel and get Otah back in midseason form and you'll see a turnaround. I predict next week will be a little better.

The thing I'm worried about most at this point is stopping MJD.

Jags have been good against the run first two weeks. Not as good against the pass.

From what I've heard, Sanchez had some great scrambles up the middle too for big yardage, and Cam's legs have Jag's fans concerned. If the middle of the field is that open, TE's should have a big day.

Passing a bunch, and designed run plays for Cam up the middle is what we're looking at it would seem.

Not exactly what I had hoped for.

teams figured out last year how to shut down the run game and essentially our offense.

it's the same thing as last year. there is nothing different. they keep on sending 8 into the box and blitz consistently you end up sealing running lanes because 5 cannot block 8. they do this because they did not respect our passing game. they had no reason to. now they do.

teams will be adjusting the way they defend this team. they know now that the passing game isn't a joke and cams performance wasn't a fluke. it's only a matter of time before the mistakes decrease. they've got to learn how to stop the passing game, but the only way to do that is to take pressure off the run game.

we should be able to impose our will on other teams, but that won't happen until these guys get more experience together an cut down on mistakes.

the only thing that saved zona and the packers was mistakes made by our offense that can very well be corrected. a couple stupid penalties from an oline still getting into the groove with their new QBs cadance, a couple throws made by an inexperienced QB, a fluke fumble made by a great WR, and shakiness in the red zone cost us the game and all of those things will get ironed out soon enough.

when it does, the run game will take off. defenses will have to spread themselves out to thin to stop both the pass and the run.

another thing to consider is that it usually takes a few weeks for the oline to gel and it also always takes a few weeks for the run game to get going. don't know why it is, just that that's the way it is.

no need to panic. the run game will get going soon enough.

we installed a new offense in record time......OL is learning new blocks/plays. Takes time. Plus, defenses are trying to take not only the run Cam away but all running lanes (Newton factoring in as he is a threat gashing through the OL...not so much running around the edges).
