McClain and Fua ..

CB? Lets get real and talk about getting an all world safety. They command the secondary; Ed Reed & Polamalu represent what they can do for us. Eric Berry in his first year dramatically changed the KC defense. I say we go for a safety in the first round next year.

have to agree with this... Cb play has been surprisingly good, considering the receivers we've played against. Just a few breakdowns at safety have really killed us. That can't happen, they have to be reliable last lines of defense back there. Has not been the case.

Problem is an all world Reed/Polamalu type safety is incredibly rare.

Edwards hasn't had a shot in the regular season, little early to call him crappy, Naanee on the other hand...

You have to keep in mind that while 11 had some nice catches he was nonexistent in between them. We don't have film to look at so it's impossible to know if he's getting separation consistently.

Edwards has not really earned the right it seems and that's worrisome because of Naanee's play. Yet still we have the Hawaiian that looked well in pre-season so I still feel we have a good core if we keep getting improved play by Newton. Time will tell I guess.

We are using Godfrey in the Nickle right now and thats why your are seeing a breakdown of coverage. Plug in a good CB that allows Capt to slide back to the nickle and you dont have that breakdown in coverage. Pugh is playing Godfreys FS pos and that's where the break down is accruing.

The Nelson TD was a fluke, and the long bomb to Jennings was when he burned Pugh. I think Godfrey needs to stay at safety regardless of the package, and we need someone like Butler to step up and solidify the nickel corner spot. Our CB's actually shut down arguably the best receiver corps and passing attack in the league for the majority of the game.

Would it be wrong to say that our defense only had to really play 3 quarters? With the family here and kids running around I couldn't tell if Fields got to play. It doesn't matter I guess who got pushed around or stood up!

Fields was innactive

It may be the best off-season we have had period, FA and the draft.

The Olsen trade, locking our other good players up etc.

And Shockey IMO has proven that he should be given at least one more year, because he is still catching and producing at his age.

I noticed McClain all over the field, he reminds me of Ngata in the way he moves at his size. Fua held his ground a lot better yesterday, but we still got gashed on the ground. Like Newton, they're rookies and will only get better with experience.

Holding their own also helped CJ and Co to raise some hell in the Packer back field.
