George Whitfield On His Pupil, Cam

For those of you that don't know, George was Cam's personal QB coach before the draft...

Awesome tweets here with great perspective:

The 12-hour days of QB camp Cam Newton put in with @georgewhitfield for weeks and weeks this offseason paying off.

*I'm running all over the training field today teaching & I'm told that the Panthers battled the Packers tough & that Cam had another "day"..

*Then a 9 year old who arrived early for the next session comes down the track screaming "4-3-2!". Had no idea what meant. Then I heard...

*I'm so incredibly proud of my latest student like any teacher would be. It isn't the numbers, though AMAZING, it's his defiance & work ethic

*The Panthers lost today and are now 0-2. And I can already see that being the 'low hanging fruit' for all the detractors.

*The Colts were 3-13 in Peyton Manning's rookie year & Dallas was 1-15 with Troy Aikman. Great players get drafted to bad teams.

*The difference this last week was that detractors far & wide couldn't wait to discount Cam's debut. Beginner's luck. Cardinals D. Miracle.

*After a historical performance all I heard was "He'll come back to Earth" vs Pack D. "Gig is up". "He'll get a wake up call vs Capers"!

*Sportsnation said he was finally playing a "Varsity defense". Varsity? In a professional league, how are accomplishments discounted so much

*I know Cam is sick about being 0-2 and wants to help that team get a "W" each time out. But they are improving & competing each week!

*Cowboy fans were rewarded for hanging in there w Aikman & so were the Colts, obviously w Manning. Hang in there Panther Nation!

*For all those ppl that "safely" predicted Cam's (reality check) & (implosion) this wk vs the Super Bowl Champs... Thank you

*Going forward the true pressure is on the Detractors more than it is on #1 for the Panthers.

*Detractors will be up late & maybe w/o sleep working to redefine, discount, & knock Cam's play, again. "How do we spin it now?" #goodluck

*What will they say next? What will Cam Newton do next?

*C-Rex!

*Finally saw the highlights of Pack/ Panther game. This was Dr Aaron Rogers vs Cam Newton the Med student.

@georgewhitfield joe montana was 2-14 his rookie year and john elway was 4-12 I think. Even, steve young was on a 5-11 bucs team.

He put it well at the end.

The Packers are what we can become. Cam is learning while Rodgers is a certified baller already.

Yeah, I loved that quote "Doctor" and "Med Student," lol...

I've never been more excited going forward following losses (don't get me wrong, I'm pissed we let them both get away though, lol).

    • The other draft picks have turned out pretty well. Brooks will too.
    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
