Brandon Thompson

Measurements: 6'2 310 pounds

College: Clemson

Experience: 4 years

40 time: 5.04

Projection: Top 20

Thompson has nice size and bulk with good weight distribution

He fires off the ball keeping his pad level low and maintaining leverage

His ability to quickly get his hands inside the lineman allows him to create a push on the pocket

Thompson delivers a nice initial jolt helping him drive back the lineman

He applies pressure because of his leverage and strength

Thompson prefers to lock on and drive rather than shoot the gap

However, his quick first step means that he is capable to penetrating through a gap

He needs to improve his ability to disengage and make plays away from his frame

Thompson doesn't have elite quickness which will limit his sack potential

2010: He had 56 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 15 quarterback pressures, and three broken up passes

Jerel Worthy

Measurements: 6'3, 305 pounds

College: Michigan State

Experience: 3 years

40 time: 5.04

Projection: Top 20

Notes:

Worthy has good ball awareness and a quick first step

He fires off the football and delivers a strong jolt

His has are routinely inside allowing him to control the blocker

Worthy has a nice strong base that allows him to hold at the point of attack

His strong leg drive allows him to get a good push on the pocket

He does a nice job remaining on his feet due to his good balance

Worthy's good balance is key to his ability to pursue the ball down the line of scrimmage

Effort and focus do not appear to be an issue even when his team is trailing by a large number

Worthy appears to always be engaged with an offensive lineman

He struggles to keep clean as he penetrates the pocket and is often washed down the line

His struggles disengaging result in him not making a lot of tackles

Worthy is not much of a factor making plays away from his frame

He has a hard time locating the football and over pursues leaving open cutback lanes

Worthy doesn't offer much as a pass rusher

He has good bulk but lacks great lower half thickness

2010: He had 40 tackles, 4 sacks.

Alameda Ta'amu

College: Washington

Measurements: 6'3, 337 pounds

Experience: 4 years

40 time: 5.22

Projection Top 30

Notes:

Ta'amu is a massive player but with poor weight distribution, mostly top heavy

He has a shockingly quick first step allow him to penetrate the pocket

His hands are equally quick helping keep defenders off his body

Ta'amu's high motor permits him to constantly pursue the football

Consistently gets inside hands helping drive the offensive linemen off the ball

Despite his size he is able to keep his pad level low and underneath the offensive line

He is very active along the line often running stunts

His quickness allows him to purse the football down the line of scrimmage

Getting inside hands creates space and helps him locate the football

Ta'amu is more of a penetrator rather than an occupier

He struggles to anchor against double teams often getting moved off the line

This makes me question his ability to play two gap football

Please add any other defensive tackle prospects.

Ta'amu's 40 time, daaaaaamn.

I wouldn't mind the Dt from the []_[] either. Marcus Forston?

I guess it would all depend on where we end up in the draft. DT, CB, WR, OL are all needs. But the players you can plug right in and get production from are definitely DT and OL. CB and WR would take a little bit to get them up to speed. Unless they are just that great football players.

DT won't be our top pick in this draft.. there are no DTs worth a top 10 pick.. unless someone just has a stellar breakout year.

I'd rather look at 2nd round DTs that would make more sense.

If we end up with a top 10 pick, I have a feeling Hurney is gonna trade down to get an 3rd(We don't have one due to the olsen trade) and two 2nds, to address all of our needs. Which is CB, T, DT, and WR.

CB or OT are my top two choices now. I really think McClain will be pretty bad ass for us and if we can just keep a decent 0 beside him I think our DL will be stout.

I still want a taller CB to pair with Gamble or an OT to replace Otah if he can't stay on the field, or eventually Gross.

WR? I understand 89 is returning to old form but, we can't continue to rely on ONE guy anymore.

Kalil wall is still a possibility, Although we could pick a CB in the second. Ron Edwards should be back next year, meaning we can have a good line. Not needing to replace him until the following year.

So we could potentially pick Kalil up then a CB in the 2nd.

Im down with the Kalil possibility, he will prob go top 5 though. I am looking at our schedule and we could have 5-6 very winnable games, and possibly a couple of upsets. 6 Wins may not be top 5, we will have to see where it plays out. If we can't get Kalil then i say trade down pick up an extra second and grab a third(moving from 6-8 to around 20), still have a shot at the best DT available, Thompson, plus a couple of more picks.

Side Note: Kalil Wharton Kalil Otah Gross.........that online would be fuggin sick. I think G is a more natural position for Otah anyways.

    • I mean that’s not an argument I go with… But in ACC play, both Clemson and SMU covered the spread more than Miami.  Miami didn’t cover in 3 games.
