The cloud is fine, don't listen to these fools. In fact, not only can you go on a cloud, you can opt to buy a resource pool (vcpu, disk, etc) that will handle a "normal" load, then during peaks, you can have the cloud system handle the spikes and you only pay marginal costs for the spikes. Pretty flexible and cost effective.

I like to be in control of my own hardware's reliability thank you very much. The cloud is really only good for companies that want to dump overhead. I understand the pro's of the system, but it also has many flaws not to mention security and data risks, and like I said, I don't want to rely on someone else's IT department to fix their poo when it goes down and stops my business dead in it's tracks.

Do you really think that your own hardware is more reliable than Amazon's cloud? Plus, 'someone else's IT dept' doesn't have to sleep or take a break to watch the Panthers game. Someone is always there to fix their poo, so you don't have to be. I'd love to see an individual who can guarantee 5 9s of reliability.

Some people are just like that. It's easier to sell cloud in the SMB market (which I'm sure he is really in) than it is to enterprise clients. But you're right, if these little shops think they have more knowledge, deeper pockets, and more reliable infrastructure than companies that specialize in it, I'm glad I don't work in their IT depts
