Ron Fields and Reggie Wells?

CB def. We have young DT that look promising, and will improve as time goes, (besides, no sure things at DT coming out this year), WR we have a lot of talent we like going forward (Gettis, Pelares, and yes even Edwards), on top of that Hurney doesn't beleive in first round receivers (He wants to find his next steve smith steal). Finally, we need guard help not tackle help. and guards don't get drafted at the top of the first round. So that leaves us with our biggest hole right now CB. There's a couple tall, fast, and talented ones that should go around where we might pick.

We'll definitely pick some OL along the way. probably a Guard we think can start, and a tackle we think we can grow into a starter. Other than that we'll probably go BPA.

I don't think we need OG help, Schwartz looked very promising and we now have Hangartner back.

I think one of Fua and McClain will pan out into a starting DT for us, with the other being a rotational guy that doesn't have the complete package, but will shine as our first DT off the bench. I think we need to find our "anchor" DT though a la Suh, McCoy, Raji, etc. A beast of an interior DT that every team needs in the trenches. The guys we got this past year are both capable starters, but probably a Robin needing a Batman would be more likely.

Not trying to talk smack, but I don't see top 10 defense for you guys. Only one established pass rusher (and a good one), easy to run on defense (or at least it appears that way), and one really good corner.

We were ranked 18th last year with the worse offense in football which put the defense on the field for forever. I could see a top 15 finish this year. The only reason I don't say top 10 is we have so many great passing teams on our schedule this year. All the teams in our division have great passing attacks.

Waiting to see Ron Fields actually play before I create any sort of opinion.

You're doing it wrong. If you want to fit in around here, you must bash him relentlessly because you have never heard of him, while touting somebody you have heard of even though he may be washed up.

Yeah, Williams is awesome. I wonder why no one has signed him yet......

I guess they are all stupid. Lets fire Hurney and make someone from the huddle the new GM. What do you think??? Want the job?? You seem to have it all figured out...............

Actually I would love to be the owner! Beings I mentioned Jerry in my post I don't blame every single move on Hurney. We have plenty of players loaded with talent but with injuries occurring you have to make moves to keep a team in contention. You telling me you are ok with Carolina being a team that only pops up once in awhile with a winning season? Sorry but I think from the GM up regarding these 2 signings it was just putting a body out there as cheap as possible.

i don't quite understand the thinking that hurney & co are going cheap with the moves they are making now. i think alot of fans don't listen to what hurney,& riveria have repeatedly said & that is they want to develop the young players on this team & yes that means there's going to be growing pains. IMO it's better to get players who fit your system & understand their role in the grand scheme of things, either way this roster will probably stay fluid throughout this season & one or both of these players could be gone any day

There is one major fallacy with this argument. Just ask yourself why they brought in Ron Edwards. If they felt it was a good idea to have a veteran presence while the DT's developed, why is that a bad idea now?

Some, including me, would rather have seen them make a concerted attempt to replace Ron Edwards when he went down with someone as good or better. That doesn't mean I think their approach is consistently wrong; overall I love it. Occasionally, though, I do disagree with individual moves. This is one of them.

Hurney has done a good job stocking the team with talent and finding replacements when there have been injuries. If there is one area I fail him on is listening to Fox and not bringing in a QB until last year with Dough boy and now Newton. He did bring in Carr but it was a disaster.

As for these signings since I wasn't in on the negotiations and neither were you, how would you possibly know if they talked to someone else or whether they are still negotiating with others. That is the point, you don't have a clue what is really going on but have plenty of opinions about how good a job he is doing with nothing to back it up. Maybe he is charting his own course or simply following orders, how would you know. You don't but don't let that bother you, it hasn't so far. LOL

After rewatching the game today and paying close attention to the DL, it's obvious why we signed another nosetackle in Fields. Fua, our nose, played poorly. McClain did well.

Still think we could have done better.

Heaven forbid we would actually watch Fields play a game before we decide he only worthy of a backup. Nothing like formulating an opinion with no basis. And no, you can't decide if he wasn't great elsewhere that he will be poor here. Or are you like other posters who make their mind and then look for facts to justify it rather than look at the facts and then formulate an opinion.
