Oh.... Warren Sapp... so little you know of Cam...

Cam has been coached up since he entered the draft to scan downfield and NOT run when he got pressure. He's doing exactly what all that training has taught him. This is actually awesome of him, as he was able to make big plays like a big time QB.

Cam ran the plays as they were called and hung in the pocket like a pro. If they had called a play with a designed run, or had a run option, he would have run it.

We have 15 games left.... we will see Cam run for some big plays. But keep in mind... with a shortened off-season, no OTAs, a new Head Coach and OC, and basically 5 weeks of preparation... games 1 to 7 are going to be, essentially, an extended preseason.

Coming up against the bye on week 9, we will see more and more of our QB's abilities as he gets more comfortable in the pocket and Chud starts trying more and more things.

So Warren Sapp... hold your horses bub. You're a few weeks too early to concern us with Cam's running.

I think Sapp's point was valid. If Cam tried to take over more down that close....results could of been better. Cam is a beast.....especially when he makes his mind up early he wants to take on guys on the ground.

all part of learning this game though. Knowing when to pull the trigger (or on Cam's case....when to run and what works at this level)

Cam also could have had the ball stripped or lost it on a hit and fumbled. Cam also could have taken a big hit and been out for awhile.

No... I disagree completely with this. Of anything that was most impressive to me about Sunday was his pocket presence and his commitment to keep looking down field. That's how the greats get it done. And he needs to develop his passing game with our receivers. Not bolt out of the pocket everytime he sees the line getting beat.

Again... we WILL see Cam light up the running game. It's gonna happen. We just have to get the Offense tightened up from lack of off season prep before he starts busting lose.

Worth noting that with the Cardinals playing eight in the box for pretty much the whole game, running opportunities would have been limited anyway.

They defended against him fairly well as a run threat. Just not as a passer.

Obviously, I'm happy about that :D

i noticed the same thing. they gameplanned against our running game using the same one used by most teams last year. keep flooding the pocket and shut down the run game and force us to beat them in the air. considering how weak we were last year in that capacity and with the addition of a "running" QB (still think it's a BS and lazy designation) we were going to be still relying on our run game. cam did nothing in preseason to who he was going to be much of a threat aside form that first drive in the 4th game.

what the league has learned/is learning, tho, is that you can't stack the box anymore. you've got to respect the pass. pick your poison.

Cam should be thinking - I don't always run out of the pocket, but when I do....

could of thrown a pick, incomplete passes (which is what happened), or someone else got hurt......

Great ones with the skill set to run.....run when needed. There are times when you run and it isn't b/c all other options have exhausted themselves. The QB who is #1 in rushing TDs for a QB and #2 in rushing yards is a prime example. That QB didn't always run b/c everything else fell apart.....sometimes when you see a chance you have to take it. That is Sapps point I think.......and I thought he had some lanes on some of those goalline throws.

Everything shrinks and compresses that close....makes it much hard for a rookie to complete those throws at the end of the game.

Newton will be coached to put his priorities in this order in pass plays:

1. Pass

2. Run in order to set up the pass

3. If no one is open, run if the opportunity is there

4. Throw the ball away to avoid a sack

He did a pretty good job following that progression this past Sunday.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
