Official Beason has torn Achilles. Out For Season

Anyone who thinks this poses the slightest threat to his career needs to throw their medical books away. They're about 20 years out of date.

Check the article I posted, it's based off of two studies. One done in 2008-2009 and the other done between 1997-2002. None of the players out of either study have returned the same player. They've returned but not at the same caliber. "A full rupture is the worst possible injury outside of spinal issues that a sports athlete can have"

This is an Article by Duke Medical Doctors that was published in Foot and Ankle Specialist "last year".

It stats that NFL players who do return to the playing field after having suffered an Achilles tendon rupture experience about a 50 percent reduction in their power ratings. (Games played, effective level during games, total tackles, INT's and Forced Fumbles were all lower after the injury)

They also state that coming back after 11 months is too soon and that's one of the reasons for the lower production.

I'm not saying he can't come back because he will, the question is will he be the same player? An Achilles tear is still a career changer in the NFL. Oh and no my medical books aren't outdated, :wink5:

I don't like that this is second year in a row that player has come back and seriously injured a spot that was already seen as an injury. Do people know if the training staff turned over from last year? I don't know this information.

Ryan and his staff are still working for the Panthers, the Strength and Conditioning coaches changed though.

Wait I'm confused. Is Beason's injury different from what Thomas Davis suffered twice?

The moment I saw it, it looked like and Achilles tear to me, I mean no one touches him and his leg just buckled.

Also everyone is hoping Dan Connor can play well as a starter and put up good numbers? Who do you guys think started at MLB all last season.

I know Beason is our best defensive player but we have 8 linebackers on the team. This will not be the end of the year.

I believe Beason can make a full recovery if he is not rushed back too soon. He just needs a good surgery and a good doctor.

yes it's different and worse, TD had an two ACL tears. Beason's injury is an Achilles tear

Observer article about Beason, the injury and if he came back too soon.

Asked if Beason returned too soon, Rivera said: "Nobody will really know. The young man knows. And he felt great coming into it. So we'll have to go from there."

Beason was not available for comment. Drew Rosenhaus, Beason's agent, declined to discuss the injury.

Phillip Kwong, a foot and ankle surgeon who is a consultant to several Los Angeles pro teams, was surprised Beason returned three weeks after surgery. Kwong also said it is unlikely Beason would regain full strength in the Achilles after surgery to re-attach the tendon.

"I think next year there's sufficient time for him to come back. But will he be the same player? Will he have the same explosiveness, the speed, the agility? That's hard to say," Kwong said.

"Most of the time when you have an injury like that it's not likely you're going to have 100 percent of the strength you had before. I think if you get to 90 percent of his pre-injury strength, that's doing really well."

Yep to be honest he prob will never be a Pro Bowl MLB again. Our training staff need to be evaluated after two players have gone down starting too early. This injury to a MLB is about like a back injury to a O-lineman. They can play but are never the same player.

So, I'm lazy this morning and don't want to read through 11 pages. Was it a full tear or partial? Should we be concerned that the young man's career is in jeopardy a la Takeo Spikes, or is it looking like a solid year off and he will be the same formidable MLB he was pre-injury?

From what I understand and from the way it looked, it was a complete tear at the top of tendon. Like the articles that I've posted are saying if he comes back, it will take 11 months to come back and around 16 months to be as full strength as he'll ever be. Also if he comes back at 85% of how he plays now then the recovery will be successful.

So to answer the career threatening part, Yes it is. Most likely he'll never be even close to what he is now.

Thx for the info. So we're looking at a late '12 return, if at all in 2012. I remember when Jerry Rice came back super early on MNF, had an amazing game, and then re-injured himself during that game. I just can't help but think of how promising Spikes' career was before going down. I hope Beason learned that coming back too early lead to this, and if we aren't a playoff contender next year, to just sit out until fully recovered. Obviously every player and injury is different, but the thought of him being a mediocre MLB with that contract scares me. Since we probably aren't going to be relevant in 2012, I'd hope he just rests and allows for a full recovery for 2013
