Green Bay's pass defense

1989

Recommended Posts

...they gave up 419 yards through the air last week. Another big game from Cam and Smitty?

If we can effectively pass on them like we did against Arizona and like New Orleans did to Green Bay- with a good rushing game and a slightly improved defense we could win this one and shock the world.

Here's to hoping!

Go Panthers...cant wait till Sunday!

We'll be facing a whole nother level of defensive play. Let's hope the O line is ready to give Cam the opportunity to make a play. RBs need to pick up the blitz well too. *crosses fingers*

all the more reason Stewart and LaFell should see more time on the field.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Green Bay back off the blitz and rush 3 while putting 8 in coverage baiting Newton to run or throw into an interception. They will likely blitz somewhat but given how well Newton did against Arizona, I am not sure the all out blitz is a good idea. Even in collge, Newton was better when teams blitzed than when they didn't. If it were me I would play zone and make him fit the ball in tight windows and keep everything in front of me.

Skip Bayless said something on ESPN today that made sense in that Arizona basically provided teams a blueprint for how not to defend Cam. He said teams will look at that tape and decide to not blitz, but rather drop more guys into coverage and make him read the defense.

However, if that happens out run game is going to have a chance to do very well. Nice to finally have a QB who defenses have to account for.

    • Yeah and he succeeded at an even higher level in LA with an even better surrounding cast. Goff is a guy that isn't really able to dramatically elevate players around him but he can make a good situation even better. He is capable of that. Some QB's aren't. I am not sure Dak is able to do that and he is in a similar "class" as Goff, IMO.
    • i think i could handle that for a year. beyond that....i don't know.  back where we lived, when we had a few inches of snow, it might have been a couple feet because we weren't getting out and doing anything. i remember times where power would go out for days on end. we had propane and electric heat, depending on the floor. basement (had a couple bedrooms and a living room and kitchen down there) and main floor had gas logs. main floor gas logs was enough to take care of the upstairs, so we could stay warm and cook on the grill when we needed. we had a well so that was always an issue when the power went out. had to make sure tubs were filled with water for the toilets and we had gallons of water for drinking and cooking available. always had to make sure we were ready. that wasn't always the case. we had a couple moments where we were going through propane quickly and because we were dealing with the worst propane company in the world (amerigas) they wouldn't get out to put gas in our 900 gallon tank. made for some nerve racking moments.  i know y'all were probably a lot more able to handle that kind of thing, but after the little bit (comparatively) that we got here i just have no desire to get trapped again. maybe for a day or two a year get snowed in and i'm good.
    • I think he is just drawing a DC to them line and that's about as far as his thought process went. It makes almost no sense outside of that. Also, it doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh or Seattle at this juncture either.  I think our "veteran" pool is basically gonna be the Dalton/Flacco tier or the "pick your poison" options of young busts(Jones/Z. Wilson) or wild, TO prone gunslingers(Darnold/Winston/etc). We have the option to pursue I genuinely believe(depending on the way the rest of this season goes), we either draft a QB in the top 10 or resign Dalton. Outlier third option on taking one of the wild gunslingers that Dave feels like he can work with.
