I always thought Pugh was just a third string scrub that Fox brought in. Then suddenly since the pre-season he's an actual player for the team now?

Gunners first priority is to tackle and make that judgment based on where the returner is standing. PP was in front of the ten so you would think he should post up and handle his first priority, which is to tackle.

Pugh was pretty terribad today. But it was game 1. He has a little more room for error before he should be given up on.

Some of you want to blame one person for the punt return way too badly. The gunners were stupid to play the end zone rather than the receiver but the rest of the coverage team sucked too.

Pugh was certainly not an allstar yesterday but laying the blame for 14 pts at his feet alone is not only folly it's embarrassing.

He did appear to assume it was gonna be a fair catch. It didn't look like he was covering the bounce to the end zone to me, he got down there and just started kinda jogging to a stop like he thought the play was over, not like he was getting ready to stop a bouncing ball.

I rewatched it, and the punt was further away from the endzone than I remembered. You are right, it looked like it was a simply mental lapse on Pugh's part. Goodson kind of just followed Pugh's lead, but quickly realized it wasn't a fair catch, and ran back the other way with Peterson. Good hustle on Goodson's part.. but overall, the entire return team committed a mental error. However, I am willing to bet that doesn't happen again this season. We are going to coach those guys up after this debacle.

Youre right Pugh totally impressed everyone. Its not like he actually missed several plays. :lol: You know whats embarassing? Pretending that a third string scrub should be starting for us and then justifying pooty play with nothing other than "ohh he wasnt an all star yesterday". . nice job on that call. . . no poo.

Everyone on the coverage team relies on what the gunners do.

Rivera addressed the punt in his presser. Said the call was a rugby style kick and the first gunner to get downfield was supposed to get toward the goal line to stop a bad bounce. I didn't notice who got there first but the second guy should have stayed in front of pp. Sounds like that one's on goodson.
