The record that Cam Newton surpassed today did not belong to Peyton Manning. He was just the holder of the modern day record.

The all time record of 346 yards (until today) belonged not to Peyton but to Otto freakin Graham.

So let's not belittle Cam's accomplishment by saying he took from that johnny-come-lately Peyton Manning.

Otto's record was for debut performance. He wasn't a rookie.

Stafford had a 422 yard game as a rookie for Detroit but it wasn't his first game. If Goodsen gains one mare yard we may win the game and Newton would have the all-time yardage record for any rookie in any game.

Pretty sure Cam has the most total yards for any rookie in a game. Certainly the most for any rookie QB.

Too bad he couldn't have thrown in about 70-80 yards rushing just as icing on the cake.

He had 420 yards passing, 2 tds, and 1 rushing TD and 18 yards. More than enough...

They took away his running lanes, so he beat them with his arm. He did what I honestly didn't think he was ready to do. I just hope he can do that against GB next week. I don't expect the same performance but I do think he has the ability to keep us competitive till late if our D can get better.

There were at least two scrambles that if he just broke that one tackle or didn't stumble he would still be running right now. They did a good job of taking away his running lanes and did a really good job tackling once they got to him.

But mark my words he is going to break off some huge runs this year when teams blitz and miss that tackle.

yeah, there were a few times where I was like "last year he broke that off against some college defense for a 50 yard gain." but it was very obvious what his mobility brings to our offense, even if his actual rushing is kept in check, so I was pretty happy.
