You don't blitz so many defenders that there are uncovered receivers on critical downs PERIOD. It JUST like kicking an extra point when you need a 2pt conversion to tie with 1 min left in the game. If someone didn't follow their assignment, fine, i can live with that, but if you're trying to tell me that leaving 4 defenders on 5 receivers against a veteran QB is smart, you can ...

The only play that I think was totally foolish was the Doucet TD. Now, I am assuming that the LB's actually executed what McDermott called. If they did, it was a VERY POOR call.

Not only was a sell out blitz dumb on 3rd and 7 from the Arizona 20, but we showed it from breaking the huddle.

If one or more of the LB's blew the play, OK. If not, it was a BONEHEADED call.

The King play was a blown coverage.

Even so, one bad play isn't enough to say that McDermott is an idiot that got run out of Philly as I have read in another thread tonight.

i thought the call was fine for the very reason that they are already at the 20 and you are not in danger of giving up heaps of yardage and if your dbs can tackle you shouldn't be giving up a score. i'm skeptical that doucet being that open in the middle of the field was not some kind of gaffe but in the event that it was a result of the blitz not getting there, the biggest problem on that play was the safety blowing the tackle (don't remember who it was)

edit: actually nm i am retarded lol. forgot that we had them backed up on that play for some reason. still feel the same way about the safety though, if he takes a better angle/makes the tackle then it's not really a big deal at all

The feeling about him up there was that he was recklessly agressive....getting caught in bad situations.

I am not calling him an idiot. Just that the call on the Doucet play was a foolish decision....assuming that the LB's actually executed what he called.

You should never blitz all three LB's in a 4-3 defensive scheme. You give up the entire middle of the field....not to mention that the LB's walked to the line from the break of the huddle.

I was also puzzled as to why the first move by the safety in the center of the field was backwards.....that did not help the situation either.

The safeties fill that void and the corners are on an island. Again, one of the safeties missed a clean tackle. That is the take home message--in an aggressive style defesne, there will be a lot of 1-on-1 situations. If any one man blows thier assignment, big plays will happen.

Even if he did not miss the tackle, the play would have still gone for 20 yards.

There was no surprise in the blitz...we showed it from the start. By walking all three to the line and actually blitzing them, you guaranteed a big play.

I agree about walking up to the line, however, an alterantive is to sit in zone and that is what we all decieded we wanted to do less of, especially on third downs.
