the punt td was just retarded. our gunners ran by the guy. you think one would stand in front of peterson to force the fair catch. it looked like they were trying to down it inside the 5 instead. the two tds to wide open receivers were because of, like someone said above, too aggressive, and on critical downs.

Then why did we give Deangelo a big contract? The running game was neglected tonight, big time.

It is hard to neglect something that wasn't productive. I didn't think we wanted to be staring at 2nd and 8 every series.

Once it becomes productive I am sure we will see it more.

Aggressive doesn't bother me a bit, it was the senseless penalties, blown coverages and lack of running lanes that miffed me, none of which have to do with scheme, but execution.

For a rookie Coach, first time OC and I'll the other changes we've endured in a limited off season I'm pretty damn happy.

You have to keep your eyes on the big picture.

this is exactly what i was thinking. i was blown away watching the way we attacked on both sides of the ball today. like i said in another thread i didn't get to see all of the game, but what i did see gave me plenty of hope for the future. its only a matter of time before the players grasp the system fully and then opposing teams will have hell to pay.

Face it, you will have some aspects of the old Fox era that are going to be better than the new Rivera regieme and vice-versa. People wanted more passing, well you got it. However, the running game is going to take a back seat in most cases and will not be the focal point of this offense.

On the defensive side of the ball, people bemoaned the vanilla read/react--bend, but don't break Fox defenses. We got an aggressive DC in here now and it still isn't good enough.

We traded in vanilla for moose tracks with caramel. The new flavor might have some draw backs, but this is what you all wanted instead of vanillia.

You wanted aggressive and we go it, so stop complaining about it. Being aggresive in the passing attack will bite us in the arse a time or two this season as well. Don't complain about it when it happens.

Got no problem w/ the run game taking a backseat.

Got a problem paying Williams that kind of money when he is getting 2 yards a pop. I understand his production is bigger than his talent.......but it only adds up to wasted cash that could of gone elsewhere.

I agree. People like 400 yards passing, but complaing about the rushing attack. Kolb, was flushed out of the pocket all day and had to use his hot reads and check downs mostly, but bitch about getting burned a couple of times. It will happen.

I just find it ironic that we are now a seemingly passing team, yet "what happened to the rushing" and we aggressively pressure the mess out of the opposing QB, but yet we give up two big plays and it's "we're blitzing too often or at the wrong times".

It strikes me as odd.

The only play that I think was totally foolish was the Doucet TD. Now, I am assuming that the LB's actually executed what McDermott called. If they did, it was a VERY POOR call.

Not only was a sell out blitz dumb on 3rd and 7 from the Arizona 20, but we showed it from breaking the huddle.

If one or more of the LB's blew the play, OK. If not, it was a BONEHEADED call.

The King play was a blown coverage.

the run wasn't neglected, so much as it was shelved (semantics i suppose), and for good reason). they were owning us in trenches and our receivers were carving them up-- why wouldn't we stop running?

yeah, he had a bad game but do you honestly think this is game is indicative of his ability/future production? i'm not necessarily thrilled w/his contract fwiw, but the line was the main culprit

Go look at Cleveland in 2007. Chud will run the ball, but if it's not getting it done he is unafraid to nearly abandon it.

He did today. As I have said elsewhere, Chud was smart and took what the Cards gave him. Am I disappointed about the lack of a rushing attack today? Sure as long as it isn't a long term problem, then I'm cool with our OC abusing a weak secondary.

Did Williams impress you before he went to IR last year? If Stewart leaps him early this year.....it will be a very dumb move. If teams are loading up to stop the run and we don't run.....then Stewart is the better back in pass protection. I didn't like the move.....and I know I am jumping the gun on things.....but it was a bad start for that luxury move being worth it.
