Folks, you can't have it both ways.

Face it, you will have some aspects of the old Fox era that are going to be better than the new Rivera regieme and vice-versa. People wanted more passing, well you got it. However, the running game is going to take a back seat in most cases and will not be the focal point of this offense.

On the defensive side of the ball, people bemoaned the vanilla read/react--bend, but don't break Fox defenses. We got an aggressive DC in here now and it still isn't good enough.

We traded in vanilla for moose tracks with caramel. The new flavor might have some draw backs, but this is what you all wanted instead of vanillia.

You wanted aggressive and we go it, so stop complaining about it. Being aggresive in the passing attack will bite us in the arse a time or two this season as well. Don't complain about it when it happens.

Aggressive doesn't bother me a bit, it was the senseless penalties, blown coverages and lack of running lanes that miffed me, none of which have to do with scheme, but execution.

For a rookie Coach, first time OC and I'll the other changes we've endured in a limited off season I'm pretty damn happy.

You have to keep your eyes on the big picture.

i don't think the run/pass ratio in this game is indicative of what will happen in most games, and was prob not what they planned on this game. i'm glad they took the reins off though b/c the blocking looked pretty poor on the line and the receivers weren't having many problems getting open. agree w/you overall though, people want to have there cake and eat it too, but that's just how people are. every scheme has a weakness and if we are going to blitz a lot we're going to get caught w/our pants down sometimes. i don't think anything was wrong w/the defensive strat

I was one of the few fans who liked zone defense with little to no blitzing, and especially Tampa-2. I'd rather build a front 4 that can get pressure without blitzing.

Who wouldn't want to be able to get pressure with 4 guys and drop 7 in coverage. A lot of teams are going away from a true cover 2 because the game is so offense friendly now. Teams that don't blitz get picked apart.

I agree. People like 400 yards passing, but complaing about the rushing attack. Kolb, was flushed out of the pocket all day and had to use his hot reads and check downs mostly, but bitch about getting burned a couple of times. It will happen.

I just find it ironic that we are now a seemingly passing team, yet "what happened to the rushing" and we aggressively pressure the mess out of the opposing QB, but yet we give up two big plays and it's "we're blitzing too often or at the wrong times".

It strikes me as odd.

If you get pressure with your front 4, then the opposing offense will get picked apart.

    • Tua has maybe 2 passes further than 5 yards.
    • I'd give the rookie WR's more credit than that. Bryce did actually earn most his yards against the Chiefs, but that Saints game was all rookie WR's yac. It was probably like 80ish of the 170 total passing yards were yac by JT and Coker. The throws have been accurate though and he's obviously playing with more confidence. I still want to see something over 40 yards in the air at some point that looks good/accurate
    • We’ll agree to disagree.  Maybe change my wording to better roster would have been more accurate. Gamecocks have some nice defensive players….but they are also thinner than Clemson all around.  it’s at Clemson.  Dabo.  Better overall roster.  And they are favored slightly….which essentially supports my prior post that either could win but if you had to pick without a dog in the race Clemson is the smarter pick.   straight up vs Carolina? I trust Clemson’s O more than Carolina’s.    Top 10 vs top 60 with the QB edge.  And Clemson’s D has some real studs on it too.   Which is what Vegas says.   I’ll make my pick game day.  Will depend on who can and can’t suit up for Clemson.  Carolina has been much healthier this year.  But ST could be the difference.  That Louisville game exposed some massive flaws in their kick game.  You don’t really want ST weakness showing itself vs Beamer
