Comparisson to Manning...

We'll be hearing this to no end for the rest of the week. But let's dig into the numbers and try to be a little objective in regards to how awesomely Cam played today.

The 1997 Dolphins were 16th on defense, 25th on passing defense. The 1998 Dolphins improved to a sixth ranked passing D and a number three overall defense. The Arizona Cardinals were 29th in overall defense last year, with a 23rd ranked passing defense. It's not impossible that the Cards have pulled off the same kind of turnaround, but its unlikely. On to the stats.

Manning: 21/37, 302 yards 1 TD, 3 INT, Long of 42 yards, no rushes

Newton: 24/37, 422 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, Long of 77 yards, 8 rushes for 18 yards, 1 TD

Comparing the defenses doesn't really negate the performance by either QB. This is something that I think you'll hear in the next week or so by people who try to downplay what Cam did today. He had 120 more yards passing, an extra passing TD, two less interceptions, and an 18 yard rushing performance with a TD added on for extra measure against a defense that is considerably less talented than the one Manning faced in his first game. All in all, completely understandable.

Also woth noting, both Manning and Newton lost their debuts, despite the record setting performances.

Might be worth looking at the other top tier QB's in their debuts, and comparing the defenses.

Just food for thought.

Cam also won the Manning award for QB...Must be some cosmic connection between these two QBs? One never knows.

The replacement for Peyton's legacy is being sorted. Those talking heads are already annointing Andrew Luck but maybe it might just be Cam, to their shagrin.
