What would the Panthers do with #1 pick in 2011?

If we have the pick and Luck is out there, we do a Hershel Walker trade with someone like the Colts.

i dont think the Colts should look into Luck, Luck is ready to start right now and honestly, i want the Colts to get a QB they can develop, like Clausen. NOW i dont see Carolina getting the top pick at all, but what would i do with that pick one of two things, either A) Defense (a CB or DT) or B) a playmaking WR to pair with Cam Newton. Imagine Cam Newton with Smith, Olsen and either Alshon Jeffery, Justin Blackmon or Michael Floyd.

Get a shutdown Corner, I mean jesus Jeff King and Early Doucet Scoring on us? Kolb looking this good? The offense wasn't a problem..

Edit: Read the question wrong, I thought it said with our 1st pick. if we end up with the #1 pick, again, you trade that sucker away obviously. Rape a team for Luck, which they WILL give away everything for him. We already have a franchise QB.

Whatever team gets the number one pick next year is in a great situation. If they already have their "QB of the future" they will end up getting a trade offer like the Saints did to get Ricky Williams all those years ago.

If i was a betting man, I say Colts sit Manning out all year, end up 2-14 and get the number 1 pick. Carolina wont be the worst team in the league this year.

trade it.

get two firsts this year at least, grab a WR to pair with newton and possible and a CB with the other.

get a DT with best second rounder(hopefully one of our two third rounders will step up).

get their first and second for 2012 as well.

Before watching cam in this game tonight, I still was not sold on him. I would have said that we need to take Luck, even with Cam....now I say we draft a position of need.

Go Panthers!

Tonight is irrelevant to the hypothetical.

As has been said a thousand times, they were always going to play Cam to see if he can be "the guy", so they can know what to do if they end up with a high draft pick next year.

If you didn't play Cam now, and you ended up with the top pick, and it was Luck, you'd feel like a fool if you passed on Luck and Newton didn't work out when you finally did play him.

But if Cam shows promise, like he did today, then you can pass on Luck and feel good about it. If Newton continues to show promise (not 422 yards a game, but that he can be a franchise guy), then the Panthers would ship that #1 pick for a lot of draft picks, and fill several holes in the that trade, because this isn't just any #1 pick we're talking about, it's "Andrew 'can't miss according to the pundits' Luck". There's going to be a team out there that will give you almost anything you want to get that pick this season.

My only problem is Marty Hurney, like Barack Obama, somehow tends to come up on the short-end of most deals (Olsen, being the exception) even if he's the one who should be wielding the power.

Colts getting Luck next year would make me rage.

That said, if we get the #1 pick, it will be fun raping someone with a trade. The rookie cap should make the trade that much better too.

Nothing is fun with Hurney at the helm.

He'd probably trade it for some scrub that he "liked coming out" and a 4th and 5th round pick.
