McDermott's Defense

The personnel was fine, there were just some dumbass calls.

I disagree.

Gamble is losing it. His play was inconsistent, and he allowed some huge plays today.

If you're going to be a blitzing D, your corners need to be able to man cover anyone. I am starting to think Gamble doesn't have that in him.

Gamble played extraordinary

Did you two guys watch the same game I did?

I'm actually completely serious.

This is a defense that obviously was learned in a shortened offseason, yet, the team still looked decent. You guys gotta remember, this Arizona team led all teams in preseason in passing yards. They have a very nice passing game.

And yet, take the two blown coverage plays out, because those will hopefully get fixed, and you get an idea of what our defense will be like once everyone learns the scheme.

Whoa whoa whoa.

Captain played well today. Gamble played extraordinary. Godfrey was solid, but had some busted plays.

Sherrod Martin, the lone man in the who escaped huddle criticism this offseason? He was teh suk.

We HAVE to get better up front. These persistent jailbreak blitzes on 3rd and long are terrible-they DID work a few times, but they also cost us 14 points, we must be able to generate more pressure from the front 4. That said, the front 4 played the run very well after the first quarter.

yeah.. can't agree with you that Gamble played anywhere close to extraordinary..

Did you two guys watch the same game I did?

curious as well..

I gotta admit.. those rookie DTs did much better than I thought they would

however, our defense let 2 receivers (King and Doucet) run down field completely uncovered, that turned into 14 points.. if they can fix that kind of stuff then we are in business

I fault the players for the King TD.....the Doucet TD imo was purely on the coaching staff.

neither were as bad as the ST goof letting PP return that punt. I can only assume they thought he did a fair catch.

Doucet's TD was a blown tackle and the same with the kick return. Can't blame coaches or schemes for that unless mis-tackles become a common occurance.

Completely wrong on Doucet's TD. That was a HORRIBLE defensive call by McDermott. You do not sell out blitz (and show it from the break of the huddle) on 3rd and 7 from the Arizona 20. He completely gave up the middle of the field....and showed Kolb the play from the start. Any QB would have checked to that pass...there was no defense.

This is why McDermott was run out of Philly. He can be recklessly agressive at the wrong time.....which he was a few times today.

Gamble helped shut down Fitzgerald. He allowed two decent plays by one of the top 3 WRs in the game today. Not too damn shabby. How many TDs did Larry have? Okay, stop making it sound like Gamble torched all game long.

lot of people have just gotten so stuck in the mode of hating Gamble they refuse to accept his good things.

The only long play he gave up was the long Fitzgerald pass and that was an INCREDIBLE route by Fitz.

Sure, the 3rd down pass he gave up was disappointing, but to let your frustration cloud your judgement on his performance is just silly.

Two wide open, long, touch down passes are the direct result of McDermott's playcalling today.

yep.

But people, don't forget that if our defense needs some extra pc help, we have Rivera to straighten up McDermott and not some offensive minded fat ass named Andy Reid. Its good that our HC is a defensive guy because there's no way he's gonna stand put with how McD called plays today. No doubt Rivera will be directing and working with McDermott this week especially given that we're playing the Pack next.

The completition would have still happened, but one of the safeties bounced right off of Doucet. (Godfrey I think).
