From a rookie. In his first game. With no OTA's. No mini camp. And as you, Grits and TRD reminded me over and over again, "He has a LOOONG way to go" who demolished the rookie debut record for passing yardage in a game.

Just wait until this "project" develops in 3-4 years.

I've been saying that all evening. At the same time, Rookie's don't do what Cam did. I know it may be hard to wrap your head around because it is for me. We lost, but it was promising. We don't look like the anemic team we did last year.

And you know what, Cam is going to fug it up. Its going to happen, and when it does this board will EXPLODE. But guess what else??? He'll come back, and show more flashes of greatness. It what rookie QBs do. Despite all the skepticism and criticism, he did everything he was asked to do. At the end of the day its only 1 game, but really its much more.

I agree, most veterans can't even pull off what Cam did tonight. He had a hell of a game. But it is still one game. His career will be defined by what he does after this game, not by this game itself. Based on some reactions in here, you would think this game defines Cam when it is only the start. We will see what happens from here.

What is a #2 starter??? Is it a friendly expression for backup?

Give Clausen more discipline and a coach who knows sth about QBs and Football (not your former OC) and he can be a solid starter. At least, he showed that he can play in a Weis-offense at college level in a school which is not surrounded by high-class talents at every position.

No, but Andy Dalton shouldn't even be discussed in a thread dedicated to Newton and you took part of bringing up the discussion. If you didn't say anything, Grit's dumb comment probably wouldn't have caught on.

I'd be really happy with a win. I said in another thread that if Cam can get 5 wins with this team and win rookie of the year i would become a believer. Putting up a ton of yards against a team the panthers beat last season ain't changing anything. You can bump that thread if you like.

What if he doesn't win rookie of the year, but we get to 5 wins? You're still not going to believe? And how is what Cam did today not changing anything? It changes a whole lot of things. We finally found our franchise QB. Which is really hard to do and many many teams have struggled to find in the past and we did it within 2 drafts of letting Delhomme go when it takes some teams much longer. When you can find your QB, it's easier to find guys to fill at other positions and sets your team up for the fast track to success in the future which is what we're doing. It also opens up our playbook. We don't have to hinder or cut down our playbook due piss poor QB play.

I don't know how you can be anything but excited for what Cam might bring to us in the future. I know it's just a game, and I know he hasn't won anything at all yet, but at least we had exciting offense even in the loss. I want wins as much as anyone, but at least I feel like we can actually score when we have the ball now.

This team is a project, even if Cam is waaaaaaay further along than I thought he was. This is only the first game of the year... We'll improve. Whether that will translate into many wins or not, I don't know... but I'm excited to watch and find out.

I didn't respond to Grit's comment, others did. I respond to nearly everything I disagree with, and I don't think we need to rag on Dalton to make Cam look better... Cam's performance speaks for itself IMO.

Pride man. Its hard for some people to admit they were flat out wrong about this kid. It takes a lot of courage and heart. Trust me, they are hurting right now inside. If they're geeked when he struggles, they're down in the dumps when he does well.

Well, no one said we all have to agree. But I do think some of you are out of touch. The arguments don't match. You say "It was only the cards, we beat them last year". Had he took a poo in the middle of the field, you would have blasted him. He does a good job and its insignificant.

The point is, it doesn't matter who the team is. Cam Newton has never played a down in the NFL-- He surpassed expectations. He was supposed to struggled he didn't. He will eventually, but he didn't tonight. If you can't see any promise in this team, or any improvements for last year, I don't think you watched the same game as I did.

But as I said, we don't have to agree, and I'm sure we won't. Peace out.

Cam certainly exceeded expectations - he was great. I don't have any idea who anyone else in our offense would have done, but I can say I was impressed with how he did and I'm pumped to see more of him.

However, there are people posting on this forum saying he's going to have 4000 yards and other crazy poo, and I think we need to see a bit more before we decide on that...
