Why do some of these experts think Cam can't develop accuracy....

Wow.... His scouting report said he couldn't throw the ball deep when he got out of college. His current stats show otherwise. So using common sense, he's developed his accuracy as a deep ball thrower since becoming a pro.

Your above stats will go for any QB, they are going to throw more under 20 yard passes then above.

I wouldn't say his deep accuracy became better but more that the talent he is throwing to is better. When you have a guy who can chase down long throws it will seem as if any ones accuracy has improved.

Statistics aside. I know Brees had one really good year and one pretty good year his last two years in SD. But if you don't think that Brees' accuracy didn't improve drastically between his first year as a starter and by the time he got to NO you weren't paying attention.

His accuracy steadily improved year after year and is now one of the most accurate QBs in the NFL.

yup, it improved one year after another, but it didn't just magically improve the second he got with Payton - he basically was average his first couple years and improved every year after that, and that includes his time in SD (which I think was what someone else was trying to say).

Interesting read on this subject here...

http://thesportseconomist.com/2011/08/05/nfl-qb-bias/

excellent read, actually. probably good for a whole other thread/discussion, imo.

one thing that caught my eye was this:

With so much specialization of defensive personnel and schemes these days based on down/distance, a double-threat QB provides a strategic edge that a uni-dimensional QB does not.
there is a thread i started about how defenses are changing and doing things to really cause chaos and confusion for the offense. they are doing some absolutely insane personnel packages and are doing a really good job of disguising what they are doing and the QBs are going to have to start being more able to adapt to what defenses are doing. they are getting to a point that pure pocket passers are having their passing options eliminated and the QBs that aren't particularly mobile are stuck. they are going to have to become both mobile and solid passers.

another interesting thing about that article was that i was reminded of a comment someone (some national columnist) made on twitter about how they hope that the panthers will be wise enough to build the offense around the strengths of a QB with his particular skillset rather than try to force him to fit into a mold that he just doesn't fit, which has been more the reason for the lack of success form many of the more mobile so-called "running QBs".

the game becoming more passer friendly has forced defenses to start approaching and scheming against offenses differently. the next step will be in offenses adjusting to the defenses adjustment. more than likely it's going to result in QBs having to be mobile legit dual threat QBs (meaning more or less equally talented as a runner and a passer).

Why do you listen to the those 'experts' and why would you belive that Cam isn't accurate in the 1st place?

But I do argree with your point and I've said the same thing before.

Cam needs to improve his consistency especially with his throwing footwork.

As Cam's consistency improves it will help his comp % improve which most people confuse for accuracy.

Cam also needs to improve his efficiency which is a function of consistency, comp % and decision making which is a function of scheme familiarity and reading defenses.

Cam's actual ball placement i.e. accuracy is fine.

Young is better than Cutler, and a lot tougher too. So it wasnt surprising he was drafted ahead of him. Cutler is a fantastic passer with a cannon arm. He also has underrated mobility that I like and can scramble and make plays. He also puts up a lot of INTs and gets sacked a lot which hurts his football team. The guy just isnt a winner. If you like to win, then VY is your guy. He finds ways to get crucial 3rd downs, he can scramble, he can pass in the clutch. VY gets criticized and beat up for wanting to go back in the game, Cutler gets slammed for wanting to come out of it. Cutler would be sitting behind Vick & VY in Philly.

I don't even like cutler, but using your logic cutler has been to an NFC championship game while Vince has never won a playoff game. Vince also refused to go back into a game after throwing an interception and getting booed, which to me is even worse since his injury wasn't physical.
