Why do some of these experts think Cam can't develop accuracy....

Are u for real? Manning had the worst interception record as a rookie...28...I guess interception has nothing to do with being inaccurate, right?

I also guess u might as well add Aaron Rogers to the accuracy list cause he was throwing lazers the other night...Oh wait, that can't be because "pinpoint accurate QBs are born not breed..And we all know how accurate Aaron was when he was a rookie...

Preach brother. Dont know why some want to portray the "golden boys" as never having struggles or taking their lumps as NFL QBs. Its as if they came out the womb winning super bowls and posting 70% accuracy rates. Enough of the tall tales and fantasy!

I'm way past college, I wonder if an NFL QB coach could help me with my accuracy.

Nah, you can develop until you start to physically fail. The only ? this point is will Cam put in the work necessary to be more consistent as a passer.

I think he will.

Do any of you guys think Vick put in the extra work to become a more accurate passer, or did he just float by on his physical talents his first 6 years?

I think he put in work. He relied more on his athletic gifts in ATL, but he even showed flashes there just wasnt consistent with it at all. It wasnt til he got with McNabb and Reid in Philly that he became more consistent. Sitting behind McNabb that year really showed him what focus and preparation as an NFL QB is all about. Vince Young is going thru something similar right now, and he's looked very good this preseason.

I’ve heard some “experts” say you can’t really develop accuracy. You either have it or you don’t…I think Meril Hodge said that but I don’t trust him anyway.

bill polian (colts gm) said something similar. i don't think there have been many prospects w/o some accuracy question marks, but you do have to worry about it if a guy is unable to make certain types of throws. like mcnabb bouncing short passes as someone mentioned

What is a "70% accuracy rate"?

We haven't even seen Cam play in a real game yet, who gives a poo about preseason stats. he was inaccurate in the preseason but he's working on it, so let's see where that takes him...

john elway only completed 47% of his passes his rookie year

dan marino hovered around 60% for his career and had several seasons with 20 or more ints

for rookie qbs, only joe montana set the world on fire

I think thats a testament to the patience people used to have with QBs. Even Steve Young looked like hot garbage his first couple seasons in Tampa. Nowadays we want instant results and want guys to look like pro bowlers immediately. Its part of this microwave sports culture we're in in 2011.

i don't think he really worked on it until philly and i think it's worked.

as much as i couldn't stand him as a falcon, i have to admit that if he had put his head into the game and had a better work ethic, there's no telling how successful he could have been. there was a lot of room for growth and he's shown since landing in philly that he's capable of it.

pretty sure i specified the first 6 years. i'm not gonna question what the man has done in philly. he committed a very soulless act, and i don't know if truly he's rehabilitated personally, but there's no doubt he is a changed man, and smarter for the experience, and a better quarterback.

i'd be inclined to say he would have never developed into the qb he has become if not for the incident, and would have been rocked out of the league by some young linebacker

Young > Cutler > Leinart

Young is the only one with a winning record as an NFL QB. Try again.:)

Cutler is better than Young its a team sport bruh. :dita:

Granted i don't like either one there both pussies!

But Cutler is at least a starter and has thrown 20+ tds four years in a row a feat Young has never accomplished. not to mention hes not a backup QB.

to be fair, as much as he's improved as a passer in Philly, he still took ATL farther (NFCG) than he's taken the Eagles. Vick was already a good player, going to jail didnt change that. Going to a better team and better coaching did.

eh, can't really compare completion %'s from that era to now. marino only completed 60% of his passes or better 6 times in 16 seasons, but he still had at least average completion % for his time period ranging from a bit above average to way above average(check the advanced passing section for comp + ). passing offenses have more high % throws now so he would likely have a much better completion % in a modern passing offense.

edit: same goes for int rates really-- ints are kind of fluky anyway-- b/c qbs throw different types of passes now than they did 20-25 years ago when marino/elway were developing (granted elway's completion% and int rates were pretty mediocre even for then)
