Someone posted earlier we were good at not giving up big plays! WHHHAATTT? 2 games back a 3rd round rookie QB from Texas Christian ( I still don't really know who he is!) hooked up with another rookie for a 40 yard bomb resulting in a td. That was the longest that I can recall thus far, but there have been more long completions we have given up just this preseason. Dixon ate our DB's up the last game! Backups or not they are professionals right? Oh and throw in alot of long runs. I didn't see Giants game but Miami, Cincey, and Pittsburgh ran it down our throats at times. Oh and I think when the other team's offense only has to run the ball twice for an easy first down back to back to back, then that's giving up big plays.

It was the pre-season. Let's see what happens when it counts.

I'm taking the same wait and see attitude as you and JOAT. I think the lack of OTAs hurt Rivera in implementing the offense and defense.

Lets see how things go during the regular season before we start with the 'OMG we suck' and 'how many points will team x score on us'. Although I've already seen the later on here. :(

Ya know I miss watching all them argue! I get to watch Sesame Street and Nick JR now. But when my lil baby is not around it's dun-nah-nah dun-nah-nah! I realize guys it was preseason but being I'm becoming an old sour puss it's hard not to have flashbacks.

It's easy to understand your concerns. I have plenty of my own. Just don't draw too many conclusions from the pre-season, either good or bad, as we never had the complete team on the field or a full game plan implemented.

You may turn out to be right...we just have to be patient for a few games to gauge what kind of defense we will have this year.

Rotoworld: He graded out as Pro Football Focus' 76th-ranked safety of 85 last year, and was 77th in coverage. Perhaps the new Panthers coaching staff believes it can get more from Godfrey based on what they saw from him in camp.

I for one have always thought he was very talented and has yet to reach his full potential. Hopefully with the lame duck coach gone, Rivera can dial this kid in.

I like the signing. I love our everyone has become d coordinators over night and blame Godfrey when the have no idea what sort of coverages we were in. Also how does Godfrey just luck into int's but guys like Reed are considered "instinctive".

Reed is a ballhawk who makes GREAT plays in coverage.....those plays are different than happening to be standing where a deflected ball bounces.

I love how everyone thinks that just b/c someone isn't an employed NFL coach they can't point out glaring problems over the course of someone's career. Over Godfrey's career being where he is suppose to be, covering, and open field tackling of a runner or weak areas.

I guess Deshaun Foster didn't have a fumbling problem.....the uh....eh.....those were laterals and someone blew the assignment they were suppose to right there to get the ball.

Ok, so isn't being in position to catch a tipped ball part of having good coverage. I've never seen a fan base complain so much about the way a player gets int's, would you prefer he dropped them. Also no one says you can't judge a player but unless you have access to "coach film" that allows you to see how Godfrey performs on a play from start to finish, don't try to judge him by the tail end of a play that you see. This forum isn't smarter than two coaching staffs
