Godfrey Extended

Two completely different players at two completely different positions on two different sides of the ball. And opposite ends of their career. Why is THAT hard to see?

Cause they are both equally silly! Godfrey got beat so many teams last year and giving up TDs. Delhomme gave up INTs. Both guys didn't deserve the extensions they received the next season. Doesn't matter about what position they played. They both should've proven that they deserved the extentions before they got them. Instead we leaned on hope that Delhomme could have 1 more year left in him and hope that Godfrey will improve this year despite our backfield still not looking good this preseason.

Keep beating that ridiculous comparison drum. It blows. Let it go. And if you think Godfrey is the problem with our backfield there is no help for you. Fact is, Ron Rivera has weeded out the guys who he didn't feel were good for the Defense. Yes we still have holes, but if he didn't feel Godfrey were up to par, he wouldn't be here. Case and point Everette Brown. The guys that get paid to do this for a living disagree with you.

@4:20 JR is asked with all the "old" Panthers gone, who is (or are) the leader/s on this team, Godfrey is the last name he mentions. Of all the guys he mentions, they are all locked up long-term now except for JStew... (CJ, Kalil, Gross, Beason, TD, Anderson, Deangelo, Godfrey)

I've always just been meh-ish about Godfrey.

Didn't think he was a bad player, you just never heard from him, never heard about him, so I just kinda thought he was there for the sake of being there.

But all the accolades from Rivera, JR, and now even the whole team about his leadership, well I'm blown away. I can't believe it. But glad to hear it. We need that kind of veteran leadership from the young guys, especially on defense.

Same thought when I read this

Ehh

That's not too bad of a contract, should work out fine.

I will say that I definitely don't believe our corners made our SAFETY look bad, it's his job to not let the WRs get behind him. He takes bad angles and doesn't get enough depth on numerous plays.

We'll see what he does in this system, not feeling our DLine though, which will ruin the secondary anyway.

Sounds like he sould play SS instead of FS.

Oh wait...

No more ridiculous than you not getting it. What blows is Godfrey playing 15 yards off a receiver when the ball is at the 5 yard line and gives up a TD. I keep hearing about his improvement, but that keeps playing in my head along with him giving up long TDs to the guys he was covering last season. He's improved his tackling. But like I said the main job of a DB is covering.

I don't think he is THE problem, but I think he's been one of them so you don't have to put words in my mouth. I don't have to "let it go". You opposed my opinion and so I'm going to defend myself. If everyone agreed with the front office, there would be no use for the huddle. Everything would be just fine and dandy. I don't have to agree with everything the front office does just because "they get paid to do this for a living". So I guess you agree that Delhomme deserved that extension huh? Yeah, there's two sides to that card. Overall though, I like the moves and extensions we've made, besides not having more DT and CB depth and this Godfrey extension.

    • From the article: Starting last Thursday, the talk started to intensify of Johnson to the Raiders. Coincidentally, or not, that was the same day the Raiders fired G.M. Tom Telesco, clearing a path for the “alignment” that Johnson has prioritized with the front office. Not that Johnson would ask for Telesco or anyone else to be fired. If a team really wants Johnson, however, it needs to hear the clues and act accordingly. If the Raiders, as it seems, want Johnson, they have acted accordingly. Johnson, we’ve heard, emerged from his Raiders interview with positive feelings about the team and minority owner Tom Brady — who has taken a major role in the ongoing search for a new coach. ... Most recently, we’ve caught wind of a rumor that the Raiders have made a “massive” contract offer to Johnson. While it’s premature for offers to officially be made, given that they’ve yet to conduct a face-to-face interview with Johnson, the talk is out there that a big number is unofficially out there. Whether it’s credible or not remains to be seen. Owner Mark Davis isn’t exactly in the upper echelon of cash-rich NFL owners. With recent buyouts to the likes of Jon Gruden, Josh McDaniels, Dave Ziegler, Antonio Pierce, and Telesco, piggy banks might need to be busted open to blow the entry-level curve on Johnson. A “massive” deal also would ruffle feathers among the other owners, some of whom are obsessed with staving off a bidding wars for coaches, where there’s no salary cap and no franchise tag and the market could easily go haywire. ... But it’s more than money for Johnson. If he works for the Raiders, he has access to Brady. Regardless of the niceties of the rules, there’s also talk that they’ve spent plenty of time talking on the phone. They’re allowed to converse within the confines of Brady’s job with Fox. Although he can’t attend production meetings, Brady is allowed to talk to coaches and players about the games he’ll be working. And he’ll be working the Lions game this weekend. ... There’s currently no other destination that fits. Johnson has interviewed with the Raiders, Bears, Jaguars, and Patriots. The alignment he wants doesn’t exist in Jacksonville, and likely isn’t in play with the Bears. Unless the Cowboys (who blew their window to interview Johnson at any time before the Lions’ season ends because they didn’t interview him via Zoom last week) make a late run, it’s the Raiders or the status quo for Johnson. More and more people in league circles believe it will be the Raiders
    • I’m a Bryce fan, and he can definitely make throws with guys in his face. But watching taller guys play, you see times when they are completely surrounded and the OL is in their lap and they can see and throw over that. Bryce can’t make that play but it seems like he is moving out of the pocket before that happens which is what he should do.
